Stock Block and Drivetrain C5 Corvette Goes Over 200MPH!
When modifying a car for speed, a lot of components usually get changed. Namely, the engine is thoroughly upgraded, as is the gearbox. Not with this C5 though.
Using a stock block and transmission, the C5 in the video below is now turbocharged and adding nearly three times the stress to critical components. That takes a lot of confidence and faith. But owner Rick Hoback has put that faith to good use by flexing his Corvette in land speed racing.
Now, the title might be a bit misleading, because when I hear “stock,” I immediately think that it’s a car that came as it left the factory. The key part here is that the components are stock — and that’s the block and transmission. The transmission surprises me the most here, as it is the one component always under duress from the huge power now put out by the V8. The Twin Turbo V8 is said to be making about 850 horsepower, and that’s been good enough to give Rick an impressive six land speed records to his name, including one for a 202 mph top speed.
