Hi Guys,
Well, we started off about 1 second off in qualifying which put us 7th on the grid. We did not have enough time with the car to actually prepare it properly. It still had a glass windshield and a stock size clutch compared to the Tilton that most of the other cars ran. The rules also call for a 1.6" restrictor (40mm) instead of the 90mm throttle body size and stock manifolds, not headers. Very restrictive but the rules are not final until they see how each brand shakes out.
On the standing start, a porsche in front of me stalled and I lost a few places at the start. Then while making them up, I had contact with a slower car and I was too impatient and touched him. It looked worse than it was but I still got a drive through penalty. ANd at Long Beach, that is the entire length of the straight. So i fell way back in the pack.
Then as we moved up through the pack, I lost 4th gear. I had to shift from 3rd to 5th even though we never used 5th on any straight. It killed the lap times and we ended up finishing 8th.
Plenty of work to do. I have to finish the Congressional election campaign till May 29th then we will decide if we go to Detroit and onward. If I lose the election, then I am racing again. If I win, then the helmet gets hung up soon.
Either way, it was great to be back in a sprint racing format.
The officials failed to throw any full course Yellows, which, in my mind, was dangerous. Had they thrown the FC Yellow, we could have made it to the top 5 even without 4th gear.
The Pirelli Tires are incredible!
Thanks

I watched on my computer and when you had that contact, they said that's a pretty stout Camaro.
I wish you were running in my district so I could vote for you. Good luck.

Damn, I want you to win the election but I also want you to keep racing. You are making it tough on us old guys.
I understand you guys are going to VIR for the NCM event?

Totally missed the news about you guys going back to WC in a Camaro. Saw a couple of pics now on your web, so time for some from LB. Can you run this car in Grand-Am's GS class as well? Miss the speed of Corvette??
