Default Max kickpanel speaker install depth, on a 66?

I am looking to put front speakers in my 66 roadstr. What is the max depth speaker that will fit in the kick panels. I have found some kick panels that come with pioneer speakers (I think 1 5/8 depth by the discription), but I want to just buy the panels without the speakers and put in some alpines to match the back speakers, they have a 2 1/4 depth install. Anyone put in aftermarket ABS type kick panels with speakers on thier car?
Where did you get them and what speakers do they have?
Max depth of the speakers?

My car is at the shop having a 5 speed installed and I don't have it available to check the depth on.

Thanks for the help.

Save some money on those speakers and install a set of sidepipes.

Not sure of the depth, but Infinity 4x6 plates fit with room to spare.

There is a hole behind the kickpanel that a speaker magnet can be partially recessed to provide a little more room.

I built my own kickpanel pods so I couldn't say if the afrermarket kickpanels line the speaker magnet up with that hole or not.

Well, I will have to look when I get my car back. I ordered the KHE-200 and just picked up QL-69WD enclosures with Rockford Fosgate P1694C speakers to go in the back. I am also going to use a Samsung YP-T8X MP3 player and hook it up to the rca inputs on the radio. When I go to shows I can unplug the player and sit in my chair and enjoy tunes.
I have the after market speakers in the dash (two small 4") but have not yet heard how they sound. I don't think I will be happy with them for front speakers, that is why I am trying to go with something else up front.

I looked at the kick panels that are provided with the 4x6 speaker in it and saw that it could be easily retro fitted with by doing a little MODIFICATION... The cost was only 120 or so dollars.. Very much worth the price to have somewhere to start from.. Dave...

I just finally got to pick up a set to look at not buy as I'm not ready to do my stereo but it looks like it would be very easy to mold it up to take a 6" speaker.. Dave.

I baught a pair of those custom autosound kick panel speakers and ended up taking them back. They stick out so far that I could hardly get at the clutch pedal. Maybe if you had an auto.

That is what I was wondering, how far they stick out. I also want to put some better speakers in them. I have seen on the web that there are some that come with 4", 6 1/2", 4 x 6 speakers. If anyone has these please chime in and let me know if they stick out in the way of your clutch leg.

thanks

Pioneers,,,they work great now,,,but, they do stick out prob 3".....doubt they would work in vette with ac....and, any good speakers would be way deeper than the stock ones come with the panels
