identifing original paint
Newbie back again.
I have a couple body guys coming to look at my 66 to price a paint job, but I'm a little concerned that the car is a survivor car. how do I tell whether the car has the original paint on it. There is a turquoise lighter color in the gas door area. I've attached a pic.
Can anyone give me an idea on where to look, to see if I have original paint or a re-painted car.
thanks in advance
Murray

Isn't that gas cap surround a rubber gasket?
They are black from the factory, so if it is turquoise, i would say the car has had at least two repaints, one with the gasket being painted same as the body,a nd again with the current paint.

That's what I was wondering....whether that surrounding rubber was supposed to be black from the factory, thanks for confirming that.

Could be only one repaint, with gasoline over the years staining and changing the color in that area. You can see that the inside walls of the filler hole are painted blue....the rubber was probably painted at the same time, not masked off. If masked off, it would still be black.
