Default Correct tire for my 70 350/350 roadster

Hello,

Other than a set of 15" RWL Firestone Wide Track Oval F70s,
what would be the current and correct 15" dimension tire for my car -
1970 350/350 roadster? I don't want anything too tall or wide,
just correct. The car sat for the last 22 years and the 30 plus year
old tires on the car are falling apart.

Also, any particular brand recommendation.
I know my selection will be greater with a black-wall vs. raised
white letter and that's fine. I'm leaning towards the black-wall unless
I find a super deal on a nice set of four RWL.

Thanks.

Rudy

I'm running BFG P245/60R15 with RWL on my '70 vert on stock rally wheels. You can usually get them at Costco reasonably priced.

I'm running Goodyear P245/60R15 Eagle GT 2+2. I believe they are obsolete now, however the size (diameter) is near the original F70.
A "60" series on a C3 really works well for handling and ride.

Why no Wide Ovals?

I also have 245/60s on my 70 convertible. I think they look great but I believe they are wider than what came stock. 225/70s are closer to stock width. The diameter of both work well. The 245/60s are just wider.

The Tire Rack web site shows 205/75/15 as equivalent and Discount Tire has 225/70/15. You might try getting the tire dimensions from Coker for the F70 and comparing to dimensions on the 2 web sites.

I have firestone firehawks on my 70 L-46. 235-60's is the widest I can get on the front without rubbing on full turns. There was alenghty discussion about how the front clip/ inner wells were originally installed which accounts for some greater or lesser clearance.

Someone mentioned the sites I believe to compare the closest fit to stock size.

I vote for the 235/60/15's. They are a little wider than stock, but not wide enough to get 'tire rub' when you turn (some people get away with 245's....some don't). They are a little 'squatter' than stock, but they will handle a bit better. And, finally, they are about the same diameter as stock, so you don't have to change speedo drive gears.

Thanks Gents!
All of you have drop dead gourgeous cars!
Don't get me wrong, I love the Wide Track Ovals -
I think they are the sweetest looking raised white letter
of all time. However, I want to drive her and bias ply don't
ride as well as the radial.

I'm patiently waiting for my carberator to come back from
being re-plated. Then it will be re-built including new jets, bolt her on,
dial in my new plugs, wires and recently restored distributor and have
some fun before summer has come and gone.

A great weekend to all!

Rudy

You guys with the 245s aren't having problems with rubbing?

I need to put new rubber on my '69 and I'm rather irritated that the highest performance tire out there is a lowly Radial T/A. Been lookin at the 235/60R15. I have 225/70R15 on mine (which is closest available to the original F70-15)

If you want a 'true' performance tire on your C3, you'll probably have to change wheel sizes to [at least] 16". No one makes a quality tire in 15" size anymore. You can by 'standard issue' BFG T/A radials, and some 'factory-similar' tires for the original look...but that's about it.

But then you have the problem of finding a wheel that fits that isn't a Torque Thrust or look-alike.

Was in a similar situation and was going to pay about $500-$600 to get a set of decent tires for my 73, decided to go 17"s, after $50 instant online rebate and $100 mail-in rebate (along with 1 year int free) I dropped about $900 on these, mounted, balanced and shipped to my door:

Wow hard to believe you get those to fit. They are closer in dimensions to the 225X70r 15 than a 235 though

Believe it or not the 265X60X15 is the closest. Only 3 revs per mile difference. Can't imagine those close to fitting.

235/60 -15 or 245/60 - 15 four or five tires, with or without wheels
they would like to sell? Plain or RWL. If so, cost and shipping to

Thank you.
