I have a 78 PACE car. I want to drive it to shows etc. but I'm worried about the usual road hazards, rocks, bugs and so on.
I have lookd at masks or bras but I don't want to rub the paint. I have no problem with putting the bra on and takingt off when I get there, but I am worried about the pant.
I also have a Pace Car, it is actually being repainted right now. When it comes out I will be paranoid but I figure thigs will eventually happen and it does not se a huge amount of road time so it should be ok. I don't plan on doing anything to it.
I've had both my '65 and my '78 repainted within the last 4 years. The '65 was an 11 month project on the body/paint. Everyone told me it would be too perfect and I'd be afraid to drive it.
bottom line is that while both cars are basically in "show" condition I bought them to drive and enjoy.
You have two options:
1. if you are that concerned about the paint than don't drive it and just take it to shows in an enclosed trailer. Ain't that much fun that way....
2. realize that if you want to drive and enjoy the car it WILL eventually get some chips in it. It can't be helped. Just drive it and enjoy it and don't let a few minor paint flaws such as accumulated road chips bother you so much that you are afraid to drive the car. You might as well sell it than and stick with your daily driver.
Bra's on the nose of the car will rub the paint and if they don't fit exactly as they should they will flap around and cause even more damage. Plus, if it rains the water trapped under the bra tends to not dry out and the retained moisture can also damage your paint.
In my opinion you can end up with more paint damage with a bra than the risk you take without it and maybe pick up a chip or two.
they have these things made by 3M that are clear plastic and stick on with what I assume is just static. I've never seen them up close nor have I heard how good they work. I know you can get kits because i've seen them on newer vettes and I think I've seen them for C3's too.

I have one on my 81 (below), I only use it in the early spring until the road crews get the gravel off the roads. I got a high end product and Barry is correct, they need to be fitted properly to reduce the risk of rub. I take it off after every two or three rides to make sure nothing has gotten under it and I NEVER let it get wet. When the roads are clean it will come off and only go back on for highway cruises.

It is has show-quality paint, get a trailer for it. If it doesn't, drive it on city streets....stay away from gravel. Enjoy it; it doesn't do anything for anyone in your garage.

I don't want a garage queen. I have the clear bra on my 2008 and it's great duing love bug season. They don't have a pattern for a 78. Maybe my VEnture shield guy can help.
Thanks
