Starter Casing Color Question
I have owned my 1977 since 1982. The starter has never been removed since owing it. I see no signs of it ever being painted. I removed it to clean up and change spark plug wires following original path through shielding. Was the motor casing at one time black as I see so many that are?
Also, both the starter and solenoid are date coded within 13 days of one another. The number on the solenoid is 1114468 and only has one post for the signal (purple wire) and of course battery lead post. All new replacements have 2 posts, just wondering if single posts are still available.
Thanks in advance
Brian

I have to assume you are doing this for critical judging???
If you are..then get a new solenoid an switch over the cover....and do away with that terminal stud.
I believe the aluminum part of the starter was raw aluminum...but the round casing where the field coils are was black.
