cup holder idea
boy my brain has been working overtime coming up with questions!
any how, while working on the dash and console, I got to thinking about where I could put a cup holder for my coffee (always have coffee).
a while back I was trying to make a console cup holder for the E-brake cover, but it would be in the way of shifting the 4 speed comfortably .
so yesterday I started looking at the cig lighter that started all this dash stuff. and thought I don't smoke, why do I need a cig light and ash tray. I could remove the hardware and cut a hole to mount a cup holder.
has any one tried this, or if anyone has an old pitted up shifter bezel they donate I'll give it a go, then show how it turns out.

It would be better to make a cup holder with a piece on the bottom that fits into the ash tray opening. That way, you wouldn't have to chop-up your console plate.

How about using a magnet based cup holder?

Not sure if there is enough surface area somewhere in the center console. If there is, mount metal to the underside for a stealth installation.

Or you could do what people have been doing for about 30 years...

Myself, I prefer the old fashioned cup holders...
a "mulitiple use" device, if you will.

Purchase one of the aftermarket cupholders and you won't have to cut a hole in anything.

I like this one a lot. Thinking of doing this myself also.
Guy put one in his 77. Did a real nice job and he included plenty of pics. Had to relocate the relay and flasher, no biggie. Check it out, I think you will agree that it came out very clean. I would paint it black to match.

i don't know why you need a cupholder. do like the rest of the drivers i see. phone in one hand, coffee in the other, eyes on the radio looking for a better station. the only problem i can think of is how much coffee gets spilled when you shift.
