It will also get "406" in the stock location with vintage font emblems.

So where will you get emblems that say 406? Looks really good, and will look better in Migilla!

I am not exactly sure and you would think I would have measured them as many times as they have been off!
They came with the car....

ok...so a couple of threads here got me going. I decided to replace all of the relays and canisters in the headlight and wiper vacuum system.
I have a question for Alan if he is watching this......do you have a lower shot of the bucket/vacuum mechanism from the lower front valance hole facing up? I am taking all of the brackets and small parts out and painting them.....would like to have an idea of what they looked like stock.

I need the wipers functioning to get the car inspected......and I am very close......I will plug some things in tomorrow morning and let er rip....

I will be driving this regularly very soon......so glad i took the time to do all the needed thing before I started to drive it.....believe me it took some patience....I want to let this bad boy loose!

Hi J,
Here's a picture that shows most of the mechanism.
I didn't realize it didn't show everything so I'll look for another.
If I can't find one I'll take a new one tomorrow and add it to this post.
So look for it here.
Regards,
Alan

Alan-san! Thanks a million!!!!!
I see yours is blacked out where the pie can mounts.....mine is a natural finish.....is it possible that it is different for 72"?
I guess I should not be too picky.....just want to clean it up under there.....

Hi J,
I took some liberties when I first restored my 71 and this area is quite over-done. This area was restored in 1995 and I haven't gone back to make it more typical of production.
I think you're right about the headlight door carrier not being black.
Do you see any signs of zinc primer on yours (?) with some body color or blackout overspray on them maybe?
I haven't been following your thread…. how close are you staying to what was typical of production?
Regards,
Alan

Not real close but wanted to keep it real if it is not too much work.....
Yes zinc primer with a hint of overspray......the car has been painted but areas such as the headlight mechanisms are absolutley unmolested and in great shape......
I may just black it all out like your and use all stainless fasteners....
Yours sure looks pretty!!!!

Trying to get this thing "road worthy"....which means inspected...and spent about 5 hours on the wipers, wiper door and blower motor....
Wiper door and blower motor were relatively easy....bad connections on the blower motor and wiper door had a broken tee up in the dash....amazingly the headlights still worked with the broken tee....so the 11 inches of vacuum I am pulling with this cam is pulling strong.....helped with the idle too!

The wiper motor after much testing I fear is bad......

Question for you guys......this wiper motor I cleaned and detailed to match everything else.....should I send this one out or does one of the vendors sell a nice clean unit?

Helping my mother move back home and getting the girlfriend and her kids moved in is taking more time than I like......but all we have is time, right?

I am going to pull apart the wiper motor either later today or tomorrow....
I should be able to find the problem in the wiper motor to make it park.
My problem is that I spent some time cleaning the unit up and it looks near new......I want to fix it. I may get a $50 motor from the parts store and pilfer the parts off of it.

My hood is at my friends having the air chamber bonded in and prep for paint......
A pint of Spies Hecker Mille Miglia red was $175!!!! A PINT!!!
I took the old hood as a reference to tint it.....it should be real close if not dead on......
The guy who mixes it is VERY good at doing so......

Wipers working, seat belts, and seats bolted down and I am ready......

I am soooooo.... happy I bought this particular car.....although it had its share of problems.....it has never been hit and the trim and interior are in almost perfect condition......this old girl is going to be fun!

Hood is finally finished........it was just shot tonight.
I marked the center of the carb stud to make sure the air chamber was in the right spot.
It was bonded in with 8115 3M.
There was much shaving and finessing to make this hood look like it was built with the car......
More pics of the underneath after finishing coming soon...as well as mounted.
Very happy

The finished product on the car.......I will have to polish the rest of it to match the fresh clear.......the color match is just about spot on......good enough for now.......I want to roll!

I have some gauge issues in the panel to address and some clean up on the wiring for the MSD.......
Next it goes to the alignment shop for a four wheel......then the A/C goes back on.

Did I mention I love this engine? Makes sick old school sound and ultra responsive with my curve and jetting.......the power and torque are right where I think they should be.....feels like a warm 468....
Very free revving and clean sounding......
