Picked up a 72'

It has a 406 with the orginal Muncie M20.......VBP Fiberglass monoleaf front conversion and the VBP rear suspension upgrade package.....17/18 Nittos....QA1 shocks.
The paint is as nice as the photos.....a real knockout......
The 406 vibrated so I jerked the motor to have the rotating assembly balanced......while it is out...everything is getting detailed, powder coated, ceramic coated and soda blasted.....
Have a box of goodies coming that include a CVR starter, all ARP stainless bolts everywhere....Hex-a-just timing set to degree the cam...and some other stuff.....
It is a 4 bolt 406 with KB pistons, polished stock rods w/ARP bolts....ported heads, and a yet undetermined chunky cam....
I am debating on a Team G and 3310 Holley to replace this stuff....but I may just wait.....
Thanks for looking and Vette on!

Congrats on your purchase and do keep us posted.
Later,

That looks like a nice car!
I remember it I think because there were a couple comments on how good the wheels look on it!
It seems to have a very nice 'stance' too!!
Good Luck!

Handling is phenomenal....sticks like glue and goes where it is pointed.....
It is also extremely powerful..and torquey...but did not want to rev it out due to the imbalance....
The stance is tough as nails.....245/45/17 and 275/40/18.
Crank goes to the machine shop for a whole bobweight sheet and balance......
It will be great to have a build sheet for the motor.....
This car will be a Triple Threat! Looks,Handling and Power....without sacrificing too much of what makes these cars cool.....a vintage theme.
They just built a Bad *** Drive-In by the house.......this will be perfect!

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
It will definitely need to be balanced.
Block is going as well for zero deck and a touch hone. It has KB 10 to 1 pistons in it which are in like new condition......a little carbon on top means I will replace the valve seals with Viton positive type.
I am happy someone decided to use the original 6 quart Vette pan as these are an excellent pan and correct to the eye......
I have GM hoses, stickers and a couple other goodies coming from Wilcox....and my new CVR starter and Weiand aluminum W/P are here.
I will measure it all up with King Bearings, a smaller, lighter balancer, Speed Pro moly file fits.
To that the stock heads will receive a gasket match and bowl blend by me.....some Isky Z-28 springs and the Weiand 8004 will go on top after it returns from the soda blaster....
Every bracket on the motor will be powder coated.....and the block repainted with brass freeze plugs.....
Every fastener will be ARP stainless......
This should make an easy 425-430 horsepower with gobs of torque...

Does anyone here have a good shot of some firewall wiring with the engine out? I would like to clean it up as well....
Peace!

I have used this one many times and they sound and run great:
COMP 292H Magnum p/n CL12-213-3
244/244@.050 .501/.501 110LSA.
The sound this cam makes is awesome......disregard the old school specs.....it makes great power too.
Also installing Crane 11308-1 spring, lock, retainer kit and Viton seals from U.S. seal.

Someone (Bubba) Broke the bolt off in the end of it and attempted to retrieve what was left by drilling.....but the drill walked and they kept going.....
To repair it leaves the crank snout too thin IMHO.
Sooooooo........Eagle it is......

I have used these cranks in the past....and they are much stronger than stock......only bitch is they tend to run fat at the journal so measuring is crucial before ordering bearings.
I will run their SIR series rods too......tougher than any "pink" rod ever made.
Sigh.....this is getting pricey.....but I have not built myself a motor in quite a while.....so I am all in!

I am going to trim up the inner fender flaps so they do not hide these super cool control arms.....
All of the steering components were pickle forked loose....cleaned, inspected, painted and re-installed.....
New relays and circuit breaker.....new vacuum switches for the wiper door....
Eliminated any un-needed wiring.....and new fasteners where ever applicable.....
Picking up block tomorrow!!!!

Have one more box of parts....(New P/S hoses, etc....) if my Willcox order ever gets here...

I decided to go with an Avanti worked HP750 Holley and a Team G intake.....
I also picked up a pair of Iron Eagle 200's on E-bay......now the motor should make close to 480-490 horsepower.....

Here is my update.....
Engine is now in.....it was hell getting it together with all of the setbacks I had....from cracked pistons to my machinist going into the hospital.....but I persevered and made it happen.
Along the way I decided to buy a brand new pair of Dart 200 Pro 1 "platinum" heads.....I sold the Iron Eagles off. The wet flow heads are phenomenal and the quality is second to none....
I drilled the bottom steam holes only for the 400 block and did the Fel-Pro block modification to give the cooling system an extra edge.....
The Muncie was cleaned and checked and a MacCleod dual friction clutch went in.....
Pic heavy....but we like pics right?

Nice looking ride, best of luck with it!
