1973 Z07 option; How do I Identify?
Hello all; out of the Vette C3 enthusiast hobby for since my 2007 divorce and parting ways with my 70 4-speed air vert. Now looking for a '73 Z07 to prep for SCCA autocross.: Please give me advice on what to look for in 73's (other than no A/C) in order to determine if it has the Z07 option. Thanks to all who reply. If you could find one of the original 45 Z07's, would it be worth it to build an autocross car?
The Z07 was basically the F-41/FE7 suspension package (higher rate front springs, larger front sway bar, 7 leaf rear spring, rear sway bar & heavy duty shocks) and J-56 brakes (two pin front calipers and cast caliper bracket reinforcements). Everything included in the Z07 package, is readily available, including new J-56 calipers and the caliper bracket reinforcements.
Depending on the organization you're looking to run with, you should be able to race using similar modern aftermarket components, that will work as well or better, than parts developed by GM 50 years ago. Standard D-8 calipers with a good set of Hawk pads, will probably provide all of the braking power you'd ever need for autocrossing, and if the rules allow, Wilwood makes aluminum D-8 calipers in both 4 and 6 piston versions.

Good luck finding one of those for sale .
Love to know what you 'll have pay someone to let loose of their car.

I think you would be better off to find a cheap car and then configure it however you want for autocrossing. An original 73 Z07 is rare and would be better to restored than raced.

Thanks to all for your input. I will probably be better off finding a nice '73 SB, and using todays technology to upgrade the suspension.

I may have the z07 , I have the correct diameter of sway bars, 7 leaf springs, but calipers are only single pin, but could of been changed. LS 4 with a Muncie. Bought it 10 yrs ago and been in the garage, drove it about 200 miles since then. Is it possible it is a z07? I know at one time you could send the vin in and get your build sheet, as I did that on my 82 vette, is this still possible?
