Default how to pain the brake fluid reservoir cap?

Hi, I have a c3 70 vette and the fluid reservoir cap has some rust and wear (see image attached). Does anyone know what type of paint I need to re-paint it?
Thank you
Siol.

For the price of them, just buy a new one. But, shoot the new one with clear lacquer before you install it. The yellow chromate color of the new one will fade away unless you coat it.

Looks like your cap already has a coat of aluminum on it.

Be nice, guys. The OP is trying to make it look better. Not everyone has a show car.

Hi s,
It appears from your posts that you're working on a 70 and a 79 at the SAME time.
Hats off to you!!!!!
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

To me because of the way the clips hold it on I like to stick with the chromate and a clear coat.

Otherwise the paint gets removed as soon as you clamp it on.

This doesn't cost much more than a can of paint.

I bought one of those. It was loose and sloppy. Also read the reviews on Summit and Amazon. Not a tight fit at all. Anyone know of a higher quality chrome cap, that actually fits right?

I have that one and the same issue. To fix it took like a minute. I just gently bent the bottoms of the bales where they hook into the MC. Instead of the 90* bend on the ends, I made it a bit more than 90*. Worked for me.

I have one. You just have to bend the bails a bit to get them to press down on the cap a bit more. The supplies bails are brittle though and have a tendency to break when you try to bend them. I ended up using the stock ones on the new lid.

That's exactly what I did, nice snug fit. I did this about 15 years ago, seems odd the manufacture is still making them wrong.

Skip Amazon. You can buy paint off the shelf at Wally World.

In my experience the bails just scrape the paint off. It takes something hardier than paint. Chrome, ceramic coat, powder coating etc.
