stupid questions about alarm and spare tire key
I have a 69 with alarm and key hole in rear deck between CORVETTE letters. I am confused as to if and how this key works the alarm and spare tire well lock. I am reluctant to activate the alarm system. Can someone please point me to basic instructions for both alarm system and spare tire removal? The spare tire instructions in my repro owners manual are not perfectly clear, nor is there a good explanation of the alarm system. I have jack but not the lug nut tool which I believe is required to unload the spare?

OK, I found some good posts on alarm system including Wilcox diagram. Will have to investigate further, but still not sure of how to operate key positions.

But still have my more stupid question regarding procedure for removing spare tire.

Hi David,
The spare tire:
The lock attaches to the end of the hanger bolt at the rear center of the spare tire tub.
There's a sliding pin in the lock that the key retracts so the lock body can be slipped off the hanger bolt.
Once the lock is off, the tub and its support needs to be raised just slightly(about 1/2"-3/4") so the hanger bolt can be swung to the side, which allows the tub to be dropped down. (It stays elevated at it's forward hangers.)
To get the lock off the pin MUST be retracted by turning the key.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan
This is the pin that the key retracts to release the lock from the hanger bolt.
The lock has already been removed.
The pin slides against the bolt here, and the tub's strap is supported on the ring around the bolt above it.

Just to be clear, in 1969 the alarm key DOES NOT also work the spare tire lock. The spare tire key (round H key) works with the interior rear storage compartment lock. The ignition key (square E key) works the doors also.
The alarm key is a smaller Briggs and Stratton key.

Hi Ed,
You're right, I neglected to mention which key is used for the spare tire lock in 69… just how to use the key and lock.

Alan
