1974 Corvette Door Jamb Problem??
Hello,
I am new to the vette forum, but have been getting good info for a while from here.
I am looking to purchase my first C3. I have found a 1974 Convertible. I will be looking at it this evening, but noticed something in the pictures.
Do you think that this door jamb is a problem? It looks like some sort of filler.
Thanks for your help.

Hi rfs,
Welcome!
First post!!
Looking at a 74!!!
The hinge pillar jambs were notoriously poorly done.
A picture of the driver's side would help for comparison.
What's SCARY about this area is that often a rusty windshield frame or the repair of a rusty windshield frame can add to the messy hinge pillar.
So what's the other side look like, AND do you know how to get even a minimal look at the condition of the windshield frame or do you need some guidance?
Regards,
Alan
This is an untouched driver's side hinge pillar on a 71. UGLY!

Hi rfs,
You can get a pretty good look at the sides of the a-pillars by looking at them through the windshield from the outside.
You can only see a narrow strip but it often gives a clue as to the health of the windshield frame in general.
The messy jamb could be the result of other things too… for instance bodywork on that area of the car.
But, let's try to settle the rust question first since a certain amount of rust can be a deal breaker on early 70ish Corvettes.
Regards,
Alan
This is about halfway up the a-pillar on the passenger's side. It's a restored car so what you're looking at won't be as pretty but you should see signs of very little or no rust., and certainly no rust perforation.
Look at the condition of the a-pillar on the driver's side in the area of the VIN tag.

Look like this car was originally blue...and shot red....and unless good photos of your concerned areas are posted...it is hard to advise any further.
