Hi John,
Thanks for posting that information.
I thought the info would be in the Chassis Service Manual too but when looking at my 71 CSM I realized the brake section doesn't go beyond 5-37.
???
Thanks again.
Regards,
Alan

Thanks for posting this.
Kind of funny. If you read the second last paragraph, you can almost hear the GM technical writer saying "don't use cheap Chinese lug nuts or you'll be sorry." Sage advice.

If only it was as easy as they make it sound! After replacing the PB shoes on my '70, I can say that's a terrible repair to perform. I had this update (found somewhere on the web) and I wound up partly doing as per GM's instructions and partly following advice I received here on the forum. If I did it a few more times though (), I'm sure I could cut my time down by 50-60%.
I just hope I don't have to.

I do them quite often and I change the procedure at the #3 installation portion. I DO NOT put the lower spring and adjuster in at that time. I put it in once I get the two pins caged to the shoes.....then I put the spring and adjuster in place.
And I MAKE SURE I am correctly installing the adjuster to keep it correct to how the adjuster then needs to be adjusted with a flat blade screwdriver and which direction the handle of the screw driver should go.
It has taken me some time to find the right needle nose pliers to do this. AND yes...a person can cut down the time it takes to do it.
