Default A/C POA Low Side Fitting

I am converting my 72 A/C to R134a. The POA has a R12 Low Side fitting, should that be changed to a R134a fitting? What is the reason/use of that fitting? I have changed the two on the main hose line just aft of the compressor, Low Side inboard and High Side outboard. Thanks, Arch

The fitting on the POA is a test fitting. If you hook a gauge to it you can measure the evaporator pressure. It is a good idea to put a R134a adapter fitting on it to keep it consistent, but it is not mandatory.

Federal law mandates that ALL service ports be changed and that a retrofit label with an appropriate background color be placed in a conspicuois place under the hood. The label is sky blue for 134a.

Watch out for the EPA police.
Seriously, someone could only look at the remaining R12 port and mix R12 with your 134a. You wouldn't want that.
