Default Wiring harness the same 72 and 73 (Seat belt)

Is the Wiring harness to the seat belt alarm the same in a 72 and 73? Yes or No? I thought it was, but I thought wrong....

In my AIM as the pictures shows the wiring goes to the retractors.

But the seat belt that is dated 73 I bought for the car, there are no wires at the retractors, only at the buckles.... So I thought that it was a error in the AIM. But nothing is matching....
In the Drivers seat I have 2 wires. If I put them together the warning comes on, but the buckle that came with the seatbelt it works just the opposite.
In the passenger seat it looks like this

If I put a wire in the small socket, and if I then press the seat switch the alarm comes on...

What is going on? I know what the problem is, but just don´t want to realize it. The seat belt for the 72 has electric connection at the retractors and NOT the buckles... And the small connector is for the retractors. Is this correct?

I just completed gettng my seatbelt warning system working and you are correct. The small connector plugs into a receptacle on the retractor. The large connector plugs in to the passenger seat sensor.

I believe the 73 system should be the same as the 72 system. Is it possible that you have 74 or later belts? They have the warning light/buzzer connector moved to the buckle.

My car is a 72 and the belts are dated 71 so that is no indcation that they are the correct ones. Depends on the month your car was built and the month the seatbelts were made. They may be 74 model year belts.

My car was built in Dec. 71 making the belts from November 71 correct.

There is a 2 digit number on the tag where you found the year that indicates the week of the year that the belt was made.

Well that just great... So I have found the wrong belts . The belts are dated 51 E 73. Do you know what year of seatbelts I should look for instead? I know that the car came with lap belts and shoulder harness, but what year would fit?

Where did you find your belts? Have looked all over....

You need belts built between June 71 and May 73. That is the approximate model run for 1972-1973.

Contact Lyle. I got my rebuilt units from him. They were $250 for the pair with my old crappy ones as trade-in. He even transferred my date tags to the new belts.

Don't know how many he still has available.

If he doesn't have any you can contact Sssnake-Oyl. They rebuild them also but may be higher. Make sure you request the seatbelt warning connectors.

PS, a third option is CorvetteUSA.com. They told me it will cost extra to add the electrical connector for the seatbelt warning alarm.

Call them and ask if they have the seatbelt warning connectors on the lap belts. I'm sure they will fit but my experience is they usually don't have the connectors.

Hi, Wisp,

Let me know how it all turns out as I'm about to have something similar done to my '71.
Thanks and good luck

Just a short lesson on 72 seat belts. The early 72 cars had the same lap belt retractors as 71's and did not have the switch mounted on the retractor. During 72 production they changed the lap belt to the retractor with the switch that was used in 73 also. In 74-75 convertibles they again used a lap belt retractor with no switch but at this time they started using a buckle that had a switch in it. The switch in the bottom of the seat springs was to tell when someone was in the seat to make seat belt buzzers and lights work. The amount of wiring in a 72 will tell what retractors were installed. I do sell repaired retractors with original webing and make trades or buy retractors and belts. I also sell a book on 56-76 seatbelts by Barbara Spear.
