Any experiences with McJacks C3 shorty headers???
My 74 rams horns have had the AIR holes very crudely plugged or sealed and I suspect one or two are leaking a little. My conundrum is whether to replace them with original Non-AIR manifolds or for a few dollars more 'upgrade' to shorty headers. McJacks has a couple different styles and according to Allen's Stainless Steel, they pretty bolt up to stock exhausts. Don't akse me why, but I'd rather go with shorty rather than full length eq. length. Thoughts/impressions/flames?!?!?

I just bought a pair of 1 5/8" shorty's from McJack's. I'm in the process of building up the motor so I won't have them on for a few weeks. I can say that the quality is excellent. I'll post more later.

Mar,
I purchased a set from him and had them installed. I'm very pleased with them. I like that they are ceramic coated, and I have had no issues with them. They are the factory short tubular with the air injection pipes. These went on my '80. Hope this helps you out.

I have Mcjack's Shorty headers on my 78 L-82 and have been very pleased with the quality, fit, and performance. They fit perfectly like the OEM exhaust manifolds and hook to a stock type exhaust with zero issues and no road or engine clearance problems. I have had mine for about 3 years-love them!

Before & After?
I'm sure that the McJacks are far better than the stk RHs. The question is how much better are they and how do the Mcjacks compare to some 1 5/8 Dynomax?
I have a strong 350 that needs headers. I would be happy to be the test subject for a before and after test.
Of course I would expect a big discount!
I'm guessing they will be much stronger down low and a few HP short on top compared to 1 5/8 Headers. If they flow as good as they look, they should really wake up a smog motor. That should get the orders coming in!

When I put the mcjack's on 3 years ago, I had for a few years before that had the 2.5 true duals and monza Turbo Mufflers on a basically stock L-82 4 speed with 3.70 gears and the shorty headers immediately increased the sound of the exhaust and improved the mid to high RPM power. I cannot comment about how they compare to long tube headers since I have not had them on the this car but replaced the stock Exhaust manifolds at the time. Check out the Sanderson link above about how Long tube headers compare to shorty headers which basically states that long Tube headers only have an advantage at very high RPM's and lose out to shorty's everywhere else in the RPM range. I learned from years of experience that for the street shorty headers are the way to go and do not have the hassles of LT headers with road and engine clearance. Hope that helps!

I have a set of these on my Vette and have been very happy with the true drop in fit, performance, and look of these. The ceramic coated finish has stood the test of time as well. I noticed that Mcjacks has their headers on sale on their ebay page. Might be a chance to get a good deal.
