Hello... I am working on my 1968 w/327 auto-The distributor has a tach and a vac assm.... This might be a few questions in one I am rebuilding my distributor so I took out the roll pin at the bottom and tried to slide out the shaft and it feels like its hitting something as I pull it. I removed 2 snap rings hopping that was the issue... no luck... I wanted it all apart to clean and replace a few things. I am replacing the vac. assm... rotor and clean it out and paint the unit. Any ideal what else I might was to replace while its apart? Can I get the snap rings at autozone? Thanks for any information you can share
You took the roll pin out but have you removed the lower drive gear?
Yes .. the bottom looks like a large flathead screwdriver I tug and tug on it and it looks like its coming apart from the top bushing... is that ok and will this be a pain to put back in the bushing if I take it out? I wanted to take the shaft out and clean it and maybe replace a few items but I want to make sure I do it right and not get over my head... what ya think?
Our project so far...... I am adding breaded hose for the radiator, heater hoses and fuel line. I was having issues with the 14 inch round air cleaner touching the under side of the hood ... I went down to a 2 1/4 inch filter and it fixed it. I am going to try an oval air cleaner with a 2 1/2 inch filter today to see if that fits better than the 14 inch round. Anyone know where I can get a nice billet oil cap(push in)?

The shaft runs on the upper and lower bronze bushings. Yes by pulling it should come right out of the main housing.
It's called a breaker plate spring clip. You used the plural above. Do you have more than one?
Sorry Paul Im not good with alot of the names of parts... Im a newbie I thought I had 2 of them ... one as shown in the photo and the other was on the top of the shiny aluminum plate... I can't find it tho but I could of swore I had one there. Should the upper bushing come out with the shaft? It looks like the upper bushing IS coming out when I tug and tug on it... slowly but its coming...
You have to remove the crossgear before you can pull out the mainshaft.

What does that look like and where is it located? If that is the little tach gear... It is out..... where can I get more of the c-clip's? Should I replace other parts while its apart?

I am by no means an expert on distributors. I have rebuilt four in my time and I have never seen either the lower or upper bushings move. In fact they are pressed in with special tools (one shown in pic). So something strange is happening with your unit. Perhaps others with more knowledge can comment.
Maybe the bushing isnt coming out ... when I look at your photo it looks similar with the top bushing sticking out about an inch or so...the shaft only has came out about MAYBE 1/2 inch.... Should it just slide out freely? I think the gear part on the shaft is sticking at the top when I pull on it... anything I can do to fix this?
