Ok... I got it out .. I had to twist back and forth and it slowly came out.... Does it look like its in good shape? Should I replace any parts while its apart? I did order some new c-clips, felt washer, Shaft & Gear lube and a rotor(Except Dual Point)... anything else? Thanks a ton fellas !

All your parts are in good shape. Clean it up, install the advance limit bushing, assemble it with some good points and a correct vacuum advance and check the advance curve - it will run well.

Thank you.... Is this a good ( http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MOR-72315/ ) vacuum advance? I ordered that 2 days ago and should get it today. About the advance limit bushing... is that the cooper tubes .... top and bottom OR hook looking flat things with the springs or just the springs? Also... I am going to paint it since I have it all apart... is it ok to paint on the inside metal(NOT bushing but the metal distributor part only) Thank you

Yes sometimes a good hard pull is all that is needed.

I agree with Lars that the shaft and othe parts look to be in good shape. Unlike my old shaft in the pic below (beside a new one). What a mess it is. On assembly lube the shaft particularly in the contact areas with the bushings.

Other parts? I would suggest shims for the bottom gear end. I have seen a couple of distributors with ~0.030" up/down movement there. I forget Lars' recommendation to me several years ago when he was selling kits but the last one I did I shimmed to 0.010-0.012" and they work well.

Thank you .. I am ordering some shims today... How can I tell if my point are good? Also.... Is this a good ( http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MOR-72315/ ) vacuum advance? What is a advance limit bushing? The brass fits at the top and bottom? Is the Ignitor III Electronic Ignition good or others like it? Would it be worth it to upgrade to one of these kits?

This is the advance stop. As to whether you wish to go with Pertronix and the like just search the archives. You will find 100s of opinions. My 1974 hummmss with points and condensor.

Nope, wrong one. That's for an HEI unit. Your local NAPA will have the correct one for probably half that price.

Hello Mike,

I am now out of this thread. A NAPA B-26 will do the job. Yep, that a Breakerless SE unit in the pic. Have not tried it yet. The old points and condensor are working so well I just say no. When things work well I just sit back and do not play.

I had hoped that Lars would comment on the nylon vs bronze button matter. He did so back in June and was not very enthusiastic about the bronze button. In fact that bronze button, its remnants, chewed my distributor to pieces recently. In any case I am bebuilding this #11122247 with a nylon button. In fact I started this evening.

Stupidly, I did not order the lower shim with the rest of the parts but the ZIP folks will take care of me. Nice people.

This is the nylon cross drive button installed. The chewed up bronze button is also shown. Both types are available from the various vendors.
