Default Exhaust Kit Help Needed

I'm planning to get the Hooker long tubes. Is there a header-back kit that will route the same as the stock exhaust on my 1979? Maybe this one?? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ho...model/corvette
Or am I going to have to have a custom exhaust welded in?

Actually...from the factory...the exhaust had a catalytic converter...which this system you ave shown does not have...and the factory system was NOT a dual exhaust system. The front pipe was a "Y"pipe...that went to the catalytic converter...and then the rear "Y" pipe went to the mufflers. You might want to check and verify that you altering/changing the emission system (no catalytic converter) of your Corvette is allowable in your area.

Also...you might find that no one will install it (Federal Law) due to this system does not come with provisions for a catalytic converter.

I don't see a reason why that one won't work for a true dual set up.

It's only 2.25'' pipe though, but it's mandrel bends, should be fine for a mostly stock engine.

Did they still use the two-hole crossmember in 79?

Should have looked at your post, same kit... I am happy with mine.

I put this kit on from Advance Auto. http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/h...hkr/22313218-P was only $199.99 and fit real well. Bought some Summit Street/Strip mufflers to go with it.

Google for Advance Auto coupons, quick search came up with one for $30.00 off and free shipping.

On my my 79, I used Summit headers and just flex tube to get it ready for the muffler shop. Would think a hooker header would bolt right up.

Yes the 79 used the two hole crossmember and the hooker kit goes through it.

Summit also sells header adapter pipes that have a little zigzag in them so you can cut and rotate them to match up with your system. Then use band clamps or a muffler shop can flare them for . Something like this.

I bought Long Tube Header and was really impressed at how well they fit until the car was on the ground.

I opted to get a set of Summit Patriot Short Tube Ceramic Coated headers and avoid the grief down the road.

For pipes I ordered a set from Ecklers that will need to be modd'ed for the headers now.

The Summit Shorties are super nice and the coating is awesome for $359.00 and free shipping.

thats about how much ground clearance I had with my long tubes. I yanked them off today and my new side exhaust headers should be delivered by the end of the week

I ended up spending $400 on a pair of hookers.

Hooker headers, I mean. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HOK-2456-1HKR
Then I called Corvette Central and got the rest of the pipes I'll need to go 2.5" all the way back. I got the Magnaflow mufflers that can be hidden.

I dont like corvette centrals exhuast because it's the same crush bending you get at the local exhaust shop. you'd be better off having it done local so it fits your car better. there's a lot of variances in headers, you may need to tweak the CC pipes to fit right. some of CC bends will be a smaller diameter than the 2.25'' kit you were originally looking at

Damn. Too late. I may eventually get something custom done. We'll see...

Not many places will weld up a mandrel bent exhaust.

I bought the CC Magnaflow exhaust and my shop cutup and welded the mid pipes to fit the Headers.
