Shift Kit TH400
What parts must be bought if you have a TH400, behind a sbc 400 (500hp/500tq) engine, and you would like to have a fast shift?
Is it TransGo Shift Kit TH400

or

Or something else?

Use this one, the other one is a full manual shift. No automatic shifting at all

IMHO, a shift kit is well worth the money. Better pressure control inside the trans, less slippage, better shifts, and overall longer life. I won't build one without a shift kit.

been thinking about this, but unsure what's the benefit for a mild 350 cruiser?
how do you choose which way to set the kit up, soft, med, hard shift?
what's the difference between a "shift improver kit" or a "transpak kit"?
is it reversible if i dont like the change?
dumb questions i sure, but i've never had an auto before i bought the vette.

My experience with the Trans-Go kits has been that I set them up for police/taxi per the instructions, and the shifts are firm , but not rough under part throttle (regular driving) and then get aggressive when you jump on the go pedal.
Most kits (Trans-Go) are not easily reversible. The instructions specify drilling some of the holes on the spacer plate to larger sizes. Short of replacing the spacer plate, you can't easily go back to stock.

can you please explain in layman's terms, what the differences are between these kits...
SHIFT KIT
features: Corrects/Prevents/Reduces: Soft Late Shifts: 3rd clutch burnup; rough 1-2; Excess passing gear; late shifts
http://www.transgo.com/products.php?...dcountview=Yes
REPROGRAMMING KIT
features: Automatic shift; Street or full-race; Holds 1st and 2nd to any rpm; Back shifts to 2nd and 1st at any rpm;
Tow & Go and Competition combination
http://www.transgo.com/products.php?...dcountview=Yes
and which would be best for a mild 350, weekend cruiser and spirited driving thru hilly roads, not into drags.
edit: also put an extra oil cooler up front when motor was rebuilt.
