Default OT: Installing Fiberglass Hood Scoop on Steel Hood?

Want to install a fiberglass hood scoop on my steel hood. Do I secure it on with screws and then use fiberglass?

Concerned that the bond may eventually crack, so asking, what is the correct method to install a scoop on a metal hood?

You can actually bond fiberglass resin to steel, there is also fiberglass bondo, but basically, you can put the scoop on the hood and use the resin and bond it to the hood, you can after that sand everything for a good finish.

Yep, as long as the metal is bare, clean and has the right tooth fiberglass resin will grab on and never let go

IMO, bonding any two things like that open to the wether into a sandwich type arrangement is a problem in that if water gets inside the scoop, and runs down into the cracks left on the inner edge where you can't see/get to it to insure a good seal.....and the water freezes it will delaminate your work...

I think that's what's happening with my car...fiberglass to fiberglass, it took 4 years++ to happen but there is a paint bubble and some fiberglass ridges showing through...

NOT a good idea....

:seeya You can bond the fiberglass scoop to metal...but it will always crack :yesnod: Because the two materials handle the change of temp. very differently it will always crack usually I will notice it at the very first cold snap below freezing! :mad :yesnod: :boxing :cry
