Need some help identifying 3 random wires...
Hey all,
I have been following the forums for quite some time now and have started restoration on my inherited 1968 327 vette. I removed the passenger knee pad and found 3 random wires just laying there as well as some rust. 2 questions here...
Where do these 3 wires go?
and how would I go about fixig the rust?
Thank you,
Chris L.

The rust is in the birdcage. If it's there it's most likely other places as well. You have big problems. To fix correctly the windshield, fenders, doors, would need to be removed. You basically peel everything away from the birdcage to see where the rust stops and weld in new as needed.
This illustrates what is involved. http://www.kingofcool.co.uk/birdcage-repair.html

With out knowing what options you have....I am guessing that they are for A/C-heater in some kind of way...blower controls in the console or heater box...as I wrote ....not knwoing if it a A/C car or not.
The rust...that is a major deal there. The rust hole you can see is only a tip of the 'iceberg'....and the hidden rust is what I am most worried about. This repair can grow and grow and grow due to trying to find the end of the rust so you can actually do a repair and weld to metal that has integrity...and NOT welding steel to metal that is really thin.
You more than likely either have a windshield leak ...or....the windshield frame under your windshield is rusted...or cowl damage....or all of the above.

Thank you for the replies everyone! The car originally was equipped with A/C, however the compressor was stripped out some time ago. Windshield leak makes sense. The passenger side door has about a 3-4 inch hole on the interior sheet metal due to rust. She's in the garage right now, but probably going to have to have a shop perform the welding/rust repairs. That's one thing that is not on my "stuff I know how to do" list.

Just to let you know...this repair can get REALLY INVOLVED...really quick. Gosh knows....I have fixed enough of bad bird cages before. Something so small and minor 'looking' turns into a major structural repair.
I am curious in what the body mount bushing looks like in the right hinge post.

Found it! Cleaned it out a little. Had some rust in the hole and on the speaker magnet, but after all was said and done, this is what it looked like.
