wiring----- oh the fun!
So here goes the fun part of my winter project. I started with the vacuum lines, well wanted to. I got new lines in and went to put them on and tried to follow the directions. It seemed to be easy but I think my car has a few different things???? I went to find the lines under the wiper arm cover. I had to get it open first, so I went to fire up the car and knowing the battery was going to be dead I pulled out the charger and got nothing from battery or charger. I took it down to the local interstate dealer and they gave me a new one. I gave them for not even asking me for papers and came home. I started the car and no wipers. I looked at the fuse and found a white wire coming from one side of the fuse, here we go with someone else bad work. I followed it to the wiper motor and pulled out more wires from someone's great work.
So I had a diagram from the guy I got the car from, it doesn't look like they same from Wilcox??? I sat down with pen and paper and started to draw it out. I'm still looking for the right wires that should be there??
Does anyone have a simple diagram of the wiring? I have a 1972 with ac/auto. I'm going to post pics when the lighting is better.

Willcoxs wiring schematic for your electrical portion of your wipers is correct. Perform a BENCH TEST on the wiper motor first NOT using any of the cars wiring. Willcox has that test procedure also.
ALSO...the cut off switch that is under your steering column can be switched OFF.....thus NOT allowing any POWER to get to the micro switch mounted on your cowl...and thus...not supplying any power to the individual wire coming out of your wiper motor...as it should be.

HMMMMM I didn't know that, I'm going out to see if that is the issue. I'll be back in a few, may even have pics?
So the white wire was added to the left side of the fuse in the car and as you can see it comes out to the white/red split connector that feeds into the wiper motor????? What is that for?

As Dub said-It is switched in TWO places- Under the dash and by the wiper door-
The white/red wire is constant power for the wiper motor- the yellow wire is ignition switched to operate the wiper. The wiper needs TWO power sources to operate. To complicate it -the park- and two speeds are controlled by grounds.
Watch the Willcox video...

Looks to me somebody was trying to bypass- one or both of the switches.

The electrical switch that is BETWEEN the two vacuum override pull-down switches is your MAIN power cut of to your wiper motor.....so.....you can have your wipers working and then turn that switch (with the large black ****) and it will STOP your wiper arms so you can change out wiper blades.

I don't understand that if you are having wiring problems, since bubba worked on the car, why not just buy a new wiring harness and fix the problems, yeah they cost a lot, but what is your time worth?? cars that are 40plus year old, sometimes need their wiring replaced to keep them from burning up!

I like to find the issue before getting into just replacing everything. If I were to have many problems then maybe; but I'm not into rebuilding the car from the ground up.
Thanks for the help DUB, I keep finding out more stuff and its most helpful.

Have you performed the Willcox bench test for your wiper motor yet???
I assume you have a wiring schematic.

The one switch under the steering wheel was the problem. Wipers are fine, I just have to get the vacuum lines finished. Wilcox is great for all the info. I'm going to get one of those big printouts of the wiring for the wall. I have some issues with this "project red" but its going to be a good winter project.
