took a long time but seems the wait was worth it. I think it came out sweet. Glad to see something new made for our C4's. If all works out on the test fit I'm a buyer

Hey guys, I didn't forget about you but you know how life goes. I'm going to try to get this all in buy my new puppy ate the charger cord to my tablet and it's dying.

Here it is....

And here's the story. It fits terrible!! It will be fixed though, I've been assured. We had to mod the hood hinge and fudge somethings but it's installed and looks incredible in my opinion.

It will get some paint work but hopefully there is a revised version the we will get that can be done to.

Here are some of the issues.

The front of it is too wide. You an split the difference and it looks ok. You can nit pic anything I suppose.

We were able to adjust some of that out with some work, the issue is not all of the bolts are long enough to use and they put inserts so you can't use your stock hardware. I have tons of crap so I was able to get into my stash to get it bolted on.

The door gaps don't appear fixable without making a huge gap between the hood and the front bumper

After getting the latch adjusted some more this gap closed up some but not much. You can push it in but it doesn't stay and it pushes the top of the hood up when you do.

Now onto fit and finish and the like. The weight comes in at 55 lbs. The stock hood weighs in at 79 lbs. It's only 24 lbs but man it makes a HUGE difference. Here are some of the things you need to know. They didn't have a large enough piece of Carbon Fiber to cover the whole hood so there are two neat lines down the hood on each "fender" area. They don't look bad and really don't catch your eye unless you are going over it with a fine tooth comb. Heck my dad didn't even notice them till I pointed them out.

The underside was done by a blind guy. This is the case on some aftermarket hoods. Not sure why but I've seen some C5 hoods that are just as bad. The nice part is it's just fiberglass so the handy guy will be able to make it nice. The not so handy guy will have some money tied up in cleaning this up.

Again if you were using this as a finished product you wouldn't be happy. Hard to tell in this pic but it's very wavy on the top of the scoop (facing the windshield) with some bubbles in it.

Here are some shots of it outside and done, some shots with other things in the background to offer some perspective of how nice it looks when you aren't picking it apart.

Oops, I left out a few things, One the hood prop rod is a loner. They removed the crossbrace that the prop bolted to so there is no place for it. On this 88 we were able to move it to the long verticle brace and it clears the Alt. just fine. We will have to buy some nutserts to install it correctly. Again there is no provision for a hood prop rod. The bright side is the inner fenders fit great and have no issues with the vents. They cover a small part of the vents but that is fine and to be honest, expected. You will have to use your stock hardware which again will require you do to some fab work. Nothing hard and you can use your old hood as a guide. We don't have them installed in these pics. We test fit them with some screws but removed them again to clean and paint them. You will be suprised at how much dirt is on top of your inner fenders. You can see parts of them through the vents so you will want to clean and paint them up.

Cool looking hood will be cooler when painted to match. Looks kinda ricer till then IMHO

I think it looks great even if you left it unpainted.

I personally want to paint in a way, detailed in an earlier post, that leaves some of the carbon fiber exposed.

Also, put some black painted honeycomb meshing in the vent holes to help hide some of the engine innards so they are lest conspicous from the outside.

When you mention weight, I am assuming yours is the fiberglass core? and the carbon fiber core is a little bit lighter?

Perhaps if they didnt make the layups so thick, the hood could be lighter....but at what expense?

For example, you dont want to be 'waxing' the hood and feel it 'caving in' under the pressure of your fingers.

Wowwieee! That's nice.I'll bet it's the real deal Carbon fiber.

My brother stuck a cheezy unsupported junk fiberglass under CF splitter on his '08 and says he'll never exceed 80mph anyway so it won't blow off.I was soo embarrassed for him.

An outstanding hood!!

I know you had a rough time of it, fabricating, fitting, shimming, etc. to get it as close as you did..and you saved 25 or so lbs, and it's now on the car. I am at a loss as to what you now intend to do? are you going to paint over the hood? I am NOT judging, I am just curious what you intended, are you doing this as a weight saving project, or to show off the carbon fiber? as it would seem like a waste to paint it, but..frankly, in the photos, it just looks like an "unfinished" yellow car, awaiting paint...and again..not judging, just curious what you are going to do from this point.

you know what they say about opinions...but maybe if you were going to paint..
you could think about some nice design to showcase the carbon..excuse the crude graphic,
no photoshop tools avail in the version I have at work...

Best, Derek

It seems like some retooling will be necessary for an improved fit. This might be fine for race cars but the fit will have to be improved before I purchase.
