Default water in throttle body, top portion

my 89 seems to be getting water in the throttle body that collects in the top piece of throttle body. i have a bypass hose so no water runs through, any ideas what could be causing this?

a lot tho? and from where? im thinking maybe a bad head gasket and it runs through hose that connects to it. the bad head gasket could be cause of idle issue in car

try changing the gasket in that top piece. i had the same problem with mine. found whitish slop at the top of my oil cap, traced it back to that top gasket in the TB being bad, condensation building up, then getting back to the breather line that connects it to the passenger side valve cover. found a ton of that white slop in the oil cap, breather line, and top of the TB. changed the gasket, cleaned that crap out, no more problem disaster averted

now that its changed are you still getting the water buildup? if you had a leaking head gasket i dont see how water would be backing up to the TB. if your worried about leaking head gasket check your oil for traces of water.

well i unplugged line, and no buildup. lean code also disappeared, i can reconnect hose and see what happens. idk how a bad head gasket could cause the waterm condensation as 86 put it or maybe something else. maybe someone has had similar issue and could shed light

What line did you un-plug?

Are you saying that the condisation problem went away by "unplugging"

This wouldn't by chance be you PCV hose would it?

Can you post a picture?

Maybe you're getting water vapor from the crankcase through the PCV line on the passenger side. It connects from the passenger side valve cover to the top of the throttle body. Filtered air is supposed to flow OUT of the throttle body and into the valve cover through this line.

If your PCV valve on the driver's side valve cover is not working properly or not getting vacuum then that could be your problem. You should be able to pull the PCV valve out of the valve cover while the engine is running and feel vacuum on the bottom. If you take put your finger on and off the bottom of the PCV valve you should be able to hear the check valve rattling.

I assume he is talking about the PCV supply hose that runs to pass side cover

Easy
Gasket blows , water gets into oil , fumes from pan ( inc water vapour ) come out the hose from pass side cover when you hit on engine ( no vac to pull fumes out through PCV valve ) and go into TB

yes i unplugged line and no more water, also SES light went off (code 44 lean) i figured it was a head gasket and wanted some input. after last comments im convinced it is a bad gasket. only issue is i dont have time to breakdown car until next weekend

Check the PCV valve, as I said earlier.
