ZF6 Swap question

ZF6 Swap question
I have just ordered all of the parts I need complete a ZF6 swap on my 93 Vette with the Auto 700R4. My question is cutting the tunnel for the shifter. In the auto do you just have to cut out the hole for the shifter or will there be fiberglass work involved. I know the 4+3 swaps have to do some fiberglass due to the change in shifter location but the Auto is a solid tunnel and the shifter is bolted to the plate. Either way I will figure it out and can manage it but I just wanted to get a heads up on the game so I know what to expect. So if someone has completed this swap before and has any insight please let me know. Thanks in advance!

I believe for a "QUALITY" swap that you'll be happy with there's way more involved than just "cutting a hole" - that was a BS suggestion but maybe it was meant in jest. If the floor isn't modified correctly there's going to be heat issues. I believe I'd get a "tunnel section" of the floor from a ZF car and do it right. In this thread there's a couple snapshots of a ZF floor that you could look at.

Did you purchase all of the correct console trim etc. required also when you did your buy?

Yes, you can just cut a hole it will "work"

Didn't you use a piece of a tunnel to finish your off? If you were to do it again would you just cut a hole to make it "WORK" or would you do it the same as you did the first time? Any heat issues? Isn't there a difference in the contour of the left side of the floor on the tunnel?

OK thanks for the replies! Nice zr1 thread to BTW that's a nice looking car. Anyway, so it seems like the general consensus is to take atleasr part of the tunnel from the zf car and graft it in to mine to prevent heat soak issues. However if one was to just cut a hole, it would "work" Unfortunately I don't have access to the donor car any more I just have all the parts so I think I'll just have to cut the whole as tight as possible with a good seal around the shifter boot and use dynamat to help with heat soak issues for insulation

The left side of the tunnel by the manual shifter hole is different, almost straight up and the auto has no hole but curves in to allow for the auto shifter.

So I just wanted to show my updates on the tunel as I have completed it. I decided to cut the hole and build my own fiberglass tunel and I think it turned out good. Then covered it all up in dynamat
Here is the tunnel first cut open
Herr is it with the fiberglass completed. Keep in mind I am no fiberglass expert.
And the dynamat installed
Finally the carpet back in
I am finishing up the rest of the swap. The pedals were a pain to get in and swapped but its almost done!
