Default Automatic Climate Control Issues

My 2000 automatic climate control is acting erratically. When I push the "Auto" button the a/c fails to come on (outside temp 98 degrees). I can turn on the a/c manually and adjust the fan speed etc. I've checked the dic, and there are no codes set in the HVAC module. Any hints on where to start looking? The temp. lcd is normal brightness.
Thanks

Could be a controller fault (that is the head unit there). Does it get really cold when you manually turn it on?

Took a quick scan of the FSM, the Scan tool can detect whether the AC Mode button is working. On provides a path to ground.

It seems to get just as cold (manually) but the temp. **** won't increase from 60-61 degrees (ambient temp is around 96-100 degrees. I' don't think I've ever tried to increase the temp. when it's that hot outside, but I'd think you should be able to set it at 70 or so.

With those kinds of issues, it sounds like the HVAC controller has gone bad.

Hi, I agree, if you can't set the temps to any degree of their full range the control head is in need of repair.
Good luck

Another vote for the HVAC controller

I'm not sure how much a new unit would cost but I suspect it would be pricey. You could try this CF Vendor that Z06 Jim recommended. He may find you a used spare.
