Default C5 Turn Signal Bulb Burnout

My mechanic owns a C5 and works on several other customer C5s. He discovered a problem with turn signal bulbs burning out. Mine would fail after getting my car washed. The problem is that the heat from the bulb causes the lens housing to crack above the bulb. This alows water to seep in and short the bulb! He cured it by covering the cracks with hot glue.

Its a well known issue on the C5

The best solutions are to inhibit the DRLs or fit LEDs.

I haven't played with a hot glue gun in forever but if the bulb is hot enough to melt plastic wouldn't it also re-melt the glue?

Chances are that over time the hot glue will melt away and your problem will resurface. Your best bet for a permanent fix is either replace both lenses or reseal the burnt holes with something better like epoxy and changing the bulbs to LED bulbs. If you do the LED route then you will need a hyperflash harness that is installed under the drivers kickplate to get your directionals to blink at a normal rate. Either way I would suggest that you reseal the holes with something more heat resistant than hot glue.
