Default Magnetic Oil Drain Plug Question

Do the 2002 C5 come with a magnetic oil plug? My 01 Denali came with one and another C5 owner told me the 01 and 02 C5s came with magnetic plugs.

My '01 Z06 did not come with a magnetic drain plug. I added one that I purchased from Ecklers. It seems that some of cars were equipped with these while some weren't; if your car doesn't have one, by all means get one. Install it when you have the oil changed because it's cheap insurance & a very inexpensive mod.

My '01 did not have the magnetic drain plug. My guess is that the mag plug may have been put on by the dealer. Over the years of buying cars, I have, on occasion, found a lil extra done by the dealer. I know, I know, who woulda thunk it?
I have gotten a free Cassette player on my 1st new car, free locking nuts (easy here) for the wheels on my second and third new cars. (sometimes even a free poly razzmatazz, but we all know how effective THAT is!)
Just a thought...and my '01 was made near the end of production for '01's.

Thanks for the replies. I just ordered a magnetic plug and will put it in at the 500 mile change.

I installed one and it has been clean, no foreign particles yet. The Ultraguard filter probably has something to do with it.

The believe is that if there are any pieces of metal in the oil the magnetic plug will attract them and keep them from returning through the engine to cause wear and tear. Many swear by them. They are cheap, $5 - $10. So it is cheap insurance. CAU, MidAmerica, Eklers, and many others sell them.

A magnetic drain plug used on an all-aluminum engine is not nearly as benefitial as it was years ago when almost all engine blocks were made of cast iron. Yes, the rings (and maybe cylinder liners) have ferrous metal in them, but the amount that a drain plug magnet will catch is but a fraction of what was caught in years past. However, if it makes you feel better, go ahead and install one; it certainly can't hurt!
