Default I think my PCM is FRIED!

I recently purchased a POWERMAX Performance Power Tuner from a private seller and went to tune my 2001 CORVETTE Coupe (M6). It downloaded my stock tune with out any issues and I went through and adjusted my fan settings and eliminated the skip shift. That was all I adjusted. When it prompted me to upload my custom tune I hit yes and it began. It went through 10% of the tune and a screen came up "ERROR -6CF010E0A, for help call (386)258-6174." When this happened I attempted to upload my stock tune and it did the same thing, started and then threw the same ERROR. My car does not recognize my PCM and I think that I am pretty screwed. What does this ERROR mean? I had a fully charged battery and even charged it up more to be sure and that didn't seem to change things at all. Sometimes, the tuner said it could not communicate with my PCM.

When I called the (386)258-6174 number it claims to be disconnected and I called the seller and he gave me the company's and email address number. I have emailed them and plan on calling tomorrow. The handheld has my tune in it, but I can't get it uploaded.

Any thoughts?

Micah

What ever you do, do NOT pull the battery / kill power to the PCM.

If the vendor does not respond, call the folks over at HP Tuners - very knowledgeable and might throw you a bone in the form of free advice.

That sucks. The power max tuner was made by Crane Cams...they went out of business months ago...Good luck with that.....

your pcm is scrambled. I had the same thing happen with a hypertech. You need to find somedody that can do a full flash on your pcm or send it to a tuner and have them flash it. When mine did it I had the local dealer reflash the pcm.

I would do a search on ebay for 'Corvette 2001 01 LS1 Engine Computer ECM PCM 12200411' and purchase one. $100 total and good insurance!

I have my original PCM sitting in the basement and I program on the one I bought and installed in the car.

I've seen and read about too many weird things to trust ANY programming package NOT to crash.

I may be wrong on this, but you can't get anyone on the phone at HP Tuners. Its all web based. Or, at least it was, At the time that was the deciding factor for me not to buy their software.
I don't like hand held tuners. I spent alot of time bashing the preditor. But their customer service guys are top notch and fair.
To the OP did you try your local Chevy dealer and see how much they want to reflash you PCM it for you?

Give Vinci Performance a call (ask for Joe or Roger) -- 407-478-8388. They may be able to help (they had a custom tuner made for them by Crane).

If that doesn't help, Jeremy Formatto is 'somewhat close' to you -- probably the best custom tuner in your neck of the woods.

Thanks, but I am currently stationed in Hawaii and I don't think Jeremy is going to be able to make it over anytime soon.

I have already been in communication with VINCI and PCMFORLESS and it is not looking good for me. I am probably going to have to pick up a new PCM.

Have a Chevy store local? Why not just pull the ecm and carry it into a Chevy store and have it reflashed?

Interesting. Does the dealership have the ability to bench flash a PCM?

Hah! I missed that part I recently picked up an 02 pcm from the auction site for $88 with a stock tune (based on the VIN number). Might be an option for a temporary fix.

Alternately, mail order tuners can bench a PCM, but then you're paying for a new mail order tune...

Should not be a problem. Just need the VIN. I have bought extra ECM's from Chris White loaded and ready to install.

Might even be able to go to any GM dealer. (Seems logical anyway)

Have you first tried to disconnect the battery for a few seconds, reconnect and then see if PCM is active again ?

I did try the disconnecting the battery and that did not work. I have already spoken with Bryan at PCMforless.com and he is ordering my PCM and I will just have him write me a tune to adjust fan settings, skip shift eliminator, get rid of my air system and all the other standard base line stuff. The PCM is only costing me $100 and the tune is $250 and he is cutting me a break on the shipping because I am military.

Doing it this way gives me the option to return it if it is bad, buying used puts me in a bad situation (like I am now) if things go array. I should have just did this in the first place.

Thanks for posting and providing support and advice. Esspecially to
pdd000
for recommending PCMforless.
