Vibration damper on diff housing
Hi all,
My 2000 A4 coupe has a vibration damper bolted to the diff. A small dumbell looking thing with a rubber center support.
Was this used on all cars? Or maybe just the A4?
I am adding Poly engine mounts as well as a poly diff mount and wondering if the damper is still needed. I can try it on or off, but just wondering if anyone has any experience with this.

I have the Hinson mounts. The diff mount arrives today, I'll see if there are any destructions. I mean instructions.
Either way is fine, but the car is all apart now and I'm not sure how hard this is to remove when all assembled.
It weighs a few pounds, which when removed is an ET improvement of .0001 seconds in the 1/4 mile. ha!

Well, I am also changing to the later 2002 torque tube with the bigger driveshaft. That will change the harmonic frequency.
Obviously a fix for NVH, but with different mounts etc, who knows.
I will just put it on.
Thanks Bob, I figured that was what it is for.

If you are installing poly mounts on the engine and differential....something tells me you are not too concerned with NVH....

You are correct! I will be drag racing and maybe autocrossing the car. As well as DD when it isn't raining.
At the same time, I will not be throwing away the stock parts either!
This is my first Corvette.

We do recommend removing that balancer when installing our C5 Diff Mount. The balancer was tuned for a specific frequency, and as mentioned above if you're changing that system enough through the use of Poly it's likely not going to make a difference in NVH.
If you're working with a stock car there is no reason to pull it out. If you're modifying parts anyway there isn't a reason for it.
