Pull the covers to get to the ignition switch. You will see a black wire. Disconnect the plug. Wire a resistor the same value as the pellet in your key on the side that goes to the PCM. You'll need to use a ohm meter to read the pellet. Put it all back together but leave the female plug disconnected.

VATS key codes:

The BCM measures the resistance value of the resistance of the pellet and allows the fuel system to operate. If it is within +/-10% the car will start.

To check your key value:

Set your digital volt meter to “ohms mode” and measure the value across the pellet.

The 15 resistor codes are:

Resistance Value (Ohms)

1 0.402 (acceptable range .386-.438)

2 0.523 (acceptable range .502-.564)

3 0.681 (acceptable range .650-.728)

4 0.887 (acceptable range .850-.942)

5 1.130 (acceptable range 1.085-1.195)

6 1.470 (acceptable range 1.411-1.549)

7 1.870 (acceptable range 1.795-1.965)

8 2.370 (acceptable range 2.275-2.485)

9 3.010 (acceptable range 2.890-3.150)

10 3.740 (acceptable range 3.590-3.910)

11 4.750 (acceptable range 4.560-4.960)

12 6.040 (acceptable range 5.798-6.302)

13 7.500 (acceptable range 7.200-7.820)

14 9.530 (acceptable range 9.149-9.931)

15 11.801 (acceptable range 11.320-12.290)

Great thanks. What should I do put a resistor in that line then?

I think those resistance values in Post #2 are in Kilo-Ohms ... not Ohms.

I think the wire colors are purple and black. Disconnect them from the ignition, and then short them with a resistor.

Is it that separate little plug? Or the main harness?

I'm pretty sure it was its own separate plug.

Go with the 1/2 watt just to be safe. Doubt there is much power dissipation through that resistor when in place, especially at only 12~13 volts of the electrical system.

The small plug has a white wire and a purple wire with a white line. Is that the correct one?

Yes, the plug to the ignition cylinder has the following wires:

1) Purple with white stripe
2) White with a black stripe

Are you having a specific problem? You have not provided any details...codes..etc..

That's not a VATS problem. You would have B272X codes if the key was not read. It won't even crank, if the key is not being read. So to be clear, the engine rotates, and then stops....but never fires?

Yes. Sometimes it cranks and cuts right back off. Like if the computer is cutting the fuel.
