But it HAS been a RACE car
Road Racing[edit]
FR500C[edit]
Ford Mustang FR500C GT4
Powered by a 5.0L "Cammer R50" engine, it delivers 420 hp (313 kW). It includes a Tremec T56 6-speed transmission and other race-spec parts including a Grand Am-spec rollcage. It is permitted to be used in the Grand Am Grand Sport (GS) Class.[1]
The FR500C can either be obtained as a turnkey costing $125,000 or by modding an existing Mustang GT with specified parts from Ford Racing.[2]
It is also known by its nickname "Boy Racer", assigned by Ford executives.
This model won the manufacturers title in the Koni Challenge racing series in 2005 & 2008. This was after several attempts to slow the car down- such as a rearend gears change and additional weight.
FR500S[edit]
Powered by Ford's 4.6L V8 engine, it is rated at 325HP. The FR500S is often slotted in between the FR500C ('Boy Racer') and FR500GT ('Man Racer'). The car was designed by both Ford Racing and Miller Motorsports for the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge series (a racing series founded by Larry Miller). The car features similar aerodynamic parts like those used on the FR500GT, but uses a DOT approved racing[3] tire- BFGoodrich g-Force R1.
With the end of the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge,[4] the FR500S has been homologated for competition in the SCCA World Challenge GTS class.
FR500GT[edit]
Codenamed Man Racer, the 5.0L V8 engine is rated at 550 hp (410 kW). This model features all of the features of a full race car, from heavily modified suspension to the large aerodynamic parts (which are effective). It also uses a 5.0L V8 engine built by Roush/Yates.

The Mustang GT350 and GT350 R are as much a Sportscar as any recent Vette. The have Vette sized wheels and tires under them, great balance, awesome brakes, and that wonderful flat plane crankshaft that only Ferrari uses in many of its cars.
Suck it up, Corvette's are great, but tons of other cars these days can run with them on the street and the track. That is a good thing.

So true, so true.
I can't get sporty type cars (370Z's, Miata's, Subaru BRZ's, etc..) to race me if my life depended on it but every Hyundai Sonata, Honda Odyssey, Nissan Altima, and Ford Fusion will try.

Vistance, when left stock with whats currently out on the street i'm sorry to tell you its not a FAST car any more it can hang with but have to drive the hell out of it to stay with new camaro's, chalanger's & GT mustangs but keep in mind this is GM's flagship car now put your c5z next to the new c7, 2015 M3, Shelby GT350 or Nissan GTR to name a few and see how you do? there some SUV's out now that will beat you like the 2016 BMW X6 M
dont get me wrong its still a respectable car quick by todays standards but fast no, very few drivers in near perfect conditions has ran 11's in a stock c5z, the average drive on an average day will run 12.5 to 13.0 witch is quick but not fast when a suv runs low 12's straight off the dealers lot!

i love my car my opinion is from being out on the street not the internet, stock i won some and lost too half the time to give you an idea of what kind of driver i am i have plenty of passes with 1.50 to 1.58 60ft's (consider my self descent not a pro) i've lost to a Porsche suv it was close but he got me lol
these great cars respond well to mods but to be fast in todays times you have to be modded especially with so many turbo and blower cars out now from the factory plus all the guys running aftermarket FI today you see so many guys at the track with daily drivers making 10 & 11 second passes some stock but most are modded, with 475/415 force induction cars are still a challenge even when i spray (600rwhp/599rwtq) modded blower cars are tough to run down

There's no keeping up with all the modded cars, some guys are comfortable with throwing the price of a new car into souping up an old one. I might go with a cam setup someday, or procharger if I'm feeling the urge for even more. I guess you could say I'm still in the honeymoon period with my C5Z, still feels stupid fast and much faster than any of the cars I've had before. I can easily see this car as a 4 second 0-60 unlike the Mustang, it feels noticeably more punchy and strong.

It's got a lot of weight to handle though. Would think on a track, the C5Z's lightweight would give it quite an edge. Add a procharger to the C5Z and it could well surpass it. I want to like the newer Camaros, but I never felt confident in my visibility when driving them. Just like my Mustang (because of rear quarter windows) I had to rely solely on my side mirrors which never feels as good as the over the shoulder check.

handling is where the ZL1 really shines the GM Nurburgring time was 7:41.2 7. Dave Hill did it with the C5 Z06 in 7:56. ZL1 was also faster on the ring than the C6 Z06 7:42.9. The magnetic ride control and active handling is incredible. Now I'm not saying I could run those times...and at the end of the day it's just a Camaro, not a Corvette.
The C5 Z06 is by no means perfect for road course use, but with minor mods to the brakes, some cooling upgrades and modern track tires, there are very few cars that can embarrass it if driver talent is equal....and that is with stock horsepower. Add in upgraded suspension, even better brakes and more cooling and the only cars that will walk you are the Porsche GT3's, Z06's, Vipers, etc. Now add another 100 hp and some aero and your running with only the most elite cars that are street legal.
The key is not running the fastest lap, but being able to run very fast for 25 minutes in warm environments non stop. There are very few high performance cars that are stock that can actually do that.

Not that I think the C5 Z06 would be faster than than the ZL1 around the ring, but just as a FYI I'm pretty sure I remember the C5 Z06 time was with a standing start, not a flying start like they do now.

I have a 2002 zo6 that I've road raced twice with just recently,Car as far as mod headers tune and upgraded brakes.I was passing new zo6's,the new ZL1 camaro porsches new m3u name it.This car flat out works I run street tires lot of the other cars where on a road race tire.People where coming up to me at the end of the day and just impressed at my driving and with just how well the c5 zo6 performs. As far as straight line performance I come across about 5 new 5.0 mustangs and pulled on them easily.
You truely get such bang for the buck with this car and it feels like a cockpit.IM coming from a 800 hp plus 2001 camaro so its by no means fasting thing straightline. But im going to put few more power mods and suspension and this will hang with almost anything.

Drifting
Running a 620hp 416 in my 04 Z16. Add in the NT01's, track pads and brake ducts and it will hang with everything but the most expensive exoctics. Runs even Steven with 640 hp vipers when I go into personal race mode and a whole lot cheaper.
I'd like to catch a gt350r out there and beat on it some!
