Default Tires running out of air!

My left rear tire is running out of air as I type this.

All the tire shops are closed and even if they open they don't carry my tire size..

Does anyone know if I run out of tire pressure completely overnight, can I still drive the 50 or so miles with 0 tire pressure tomorrow morning?

Here is my post in the tire section.

You should be OK assuming you have runflats. Could the valve be loose? Have you inspected the tire looking for a nail or any other obvious problem? It might just be a simple puncture that can be patched. If you have a puncture in the sidewall, you will likely need a new tire. Is the tire covered under warranty?

I'd call the tire shop(s) before I made a 50 mile drive. If you do need a tire, it may take a day or so to get one in. Do you have an air pump? Put some air in the tire before you make the 50 mile drive.

It doesn't sound like too major a problem. Good luck!

Yes, I've done it. I drove 45 miles at 55 mph on a completely flat tire.

If you keep the speed to 55 mph or less, you might still be able to salvage the tire. You didn't mention whether or not that was required.

No the tire shop is probably 5 miles away going about 35 MPH,

but since it won't be driven all night, I wonder if that affects it's range at 0 PSI in the morning.

There is nothing that I can see visually. I just hear a hissing sound. I really hope it's something as simple as patching the tire.

Well you can also use "Fix-a-Flat" it will repair the leak but it might damage the pressure sensor. The C5 Z06s used a similar system with the factory non run flats and 0 spare. I think its worth the gamble, The sensor is cheaper than wrecking a tire.

DO NOT DO THIS!!! You will destroy the TPMS sensors and **** off the tire repair guys.

If you have runflats....you don't need air.

Once you get your tire fixed I suggest you run to the autoparts store and buy a tire inflator for 20 bucks and store it in one of your rear cubby holes.

5 miles of city driving is nothing....you could let ALL the air out of ALL FOUR tires and do that with no problems. What is hard on the runflat tire is high speed driving as that generates lots of heat...and heat is what can ruin a tire...any tire. Just take it down and they will probably be able to fix it. Or put some soapy water on it now and see where the leak is...

You might want to check your valve stems for leakage.

That 55MPH is for straight line driving, DON"T try any extreme cornering even at lower speeds. the run flat sidewalls don't support side loads very well.

if you have ever changed a tire after someone has put a can or two of "slime" in the tire, you know what I mean not withstanding the sensor damage. with a RF you will be good to get to the tire shop.

As per the owner's manual, you can drive at speeds below 55 mph, for 25 miles and the tire may be repairable. I do not recommed driving 50 miles because the tire will get very hot and driving at 0 psi for 50 miles is bound to have a negative effect on the tire. If you have to, you have to, but try to find another solution. I just purchased 4 new Supercar tires last week. They are difficult to find, but they can be found. A good tire shop, or your dealer, will know how to find a tire for you. Also, your tire may be repairable.

1. A flat runflat sitting still does no damage to the tire.
2. If the tire will hold air for any length of time, pump it up to the max cold pressure of 44 psi and drive to shop to get it fixed. Only run a runflat with no air pressure if the damage is so large that it will not hold pressure any length of time.
3. If you can hear hissing, your ears should direct you to the area of tire where the leak is and your hand should be able to feel the air escaping form the tire and the source of the leak.

I had a "complete" flat for 3 days. Drove about the same distance too. Same speeds.

Absolutley no issues. $40.00 to plug and away I went. Forever sold on run-flats.

That's why they call them RUN FLATS

In all seriousness, you'll be fine. Get it fixed, and then buy a mini pump for each of your cars. It's much easier to pump up a flat and drive it to discount tire than it is to put on a spare (ask my wife w/ 18's on her Impala SS).

You can always stop at a gas station or convenience store in route and air it up just to be safe . . . .or swing by a Target or auto parts store to buy a small air pump.

Thanks everyone you've been very helpful. I'm going to buy an air pump from wal mart and keep it in the car from now on. For now I'm gonna go and see if I can get the tire fixed or not at a tireshop. I'm hoping for the best...

Why don't you call Roadside Assistance and have them tow it to the tire guy?
