Ok so just to be clear, you're getting a manual (TR6060) or an automatic (6L80 aka: 'paddle shift')?

They're both quite strong and should be able to take A LOT of use/abuse in a bone stock or even mildly modified Corvette.
Once the modding begins all bets are off because there are just too many factors involved such as driver skill (abuse), quality of installation/tuning, clutch, tires etc. etc.

True.
It will also have a heavier duty version of the paddle shift automatic known as the 6L90.

Converting your auto trans to a manual would be quite expensive even if you pick up the TR6060 trans reasonable. You will still need the clutch assembly, all the pedal assembly, wiring harness, different rear adapter, and either a new ECU and wiring harness or convert to an aftermarket system. You would be much better off purchasing the car the way you want it.
The Hydra-Matic 6L80 trans is rated up to 430 ft lbs. Some are subjecting it to more, but it was not designed for it. It comes down to "do you fell lucky today"!
Cadillac has a new 6L90 trans that is rated to 555hp and 550 ft lbs. But again, it would be expensive to convert your vette over.

For the ZR1...

The MM6 in the Z06 and base model are rated at 470-500 LB-FT and the MZ6 with the Z51 option is rated at 428 LB-FT.
http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/...008tr6060.html

Not all TR6060s are made the same, as 1st gear gets higher numerically, the torque capacity gets lower.
ZR1 1st gear- 2.29:1
Z06/Base 1st gear- 2.66:1
Z51 1st gear- 2.97:1

There is a direct relationship between the 1st gear ratio and torque capacity of a given manual transmission, i.e. shaft spacing and gear tooth width is a constant. The ZR1 TR6060 also has some extra strengthening of some gears (can't remember which ones, but at least 1st gear).

thanks guys this is all great stuff! i appreciate the help, money isn't a problem, quality is, i'd rather have something that can hold 1k horsepower and actually have 600 than have 1k horsepower and be at the limit of the trans, i'd like to get the best trans out there

hey CMY SIX i see you call everyone a troll, usually what happens is when someone goes around calling people a certain name they are hiding that problem themselves, i guess you have no other input than to say "troll" how about giving some advice like these other guys do, there's no need for you, i bet you're that guy that goes to the gym and tells everybody how much they used to benchpress back in the day, or maybe you're that guy who watches steven seagal movies and tells everybody you're a blackbelt, let's see if you call me a troll in person you're just a nerd hiding behind a computer
