Default Battery Tender vs. Battery Charger & Dead Battery

I had my C7 delivered three weeks ago and will not be home for another 3-4 months. I do not have anyone to start the car up.
I am going to assume that the battery will be dead by that time.
Will it affect the car and will I be able to charge the battery
without any damage?

Thank You For Your Help!

I would not assume the battery will be dead. In fact, I would be surprised if it were. It should turn over in three weeks with no problem. I assume its pretty warm where you are located. In any case, if it is down, a battery charger will bring it right back up and you will be okay from that point on.

Edit: I just re-read the OP post...sorry, missed the three to four months. If possible get someone to put a battery tender on it.

If you don't have a battery tender, get one. It is better for the life of your battery than having to recharge a dead battery every time.

If at all possible, get somebody to put a Battery Tender on it. The battery will not survive 3-4 months. You might be able to charge it, but it will never be the same.

No, after 3-4 months as the OP stated, his battery will be dead as a door nail! Even sitting for three weeks as you say, the battery will not be fully charged, but will most likely still start the car, but not good for the batteries long time life span by doing what you say.

if you can't put a tender on it- disconnect the neg post....the batt will hold a charge...realize once you flatten a dead batt, it's not the same anymore, esp after a few months, I'd replace it as it's sulfated...

Disconnect the negative terminal as Glen said.

If your C7 battery won't hold a full charge for 2-3 weeks without a tender on it you have a problem that needs to be found and fixed, not have the symptom masked by a tender. I heard the lame "dead battery syndrome" argument for years on the C6 forum, and I proved it was wrong.

Get a battery tender and you can leave it on for several months with no worries. Thats what they are designed for. When I use mine, I just hook to the battery posts with the alligator clips. They are about $30

If you can't get a tender on it or disconnent it the worse that would happen is the battery may be dead and ruined from sitting uncharged. A couple $100, if that, to get a new battery and you'll be back in business.

Gee, I don't know if they changed something from the earlier built C7's, but on mine (S/N 20682) they have the carpet so tight against the rear and tucked under the plastic by the wheel well, you can hardly get the carpet pulled up enough to even remove the foam cover over the battery. It would be a real pain in the *** for me to use an after market tender where I had to hook up the battery posts with the alligator clips.

What's nice about the stock battery tender, it's a 3.3 amp charger and then goes into the maintenance charge mode and you just plug it into the auxiliary power outlet by the battery.

Default Can You Recommend Battery Tender For C7

Can you please recommend the correct battery tender to get for my
C7. I was told to get a tender, not a charger and not a trickle charger
to keep my battery charged for the 3-4 months that my C7 will be
sitting in my garage until I get home.
Thanks For Your Time & Help!

If your not worried about cost (about $100) buy the stock battery tender/charger that comes from GM for the C7.

It's US 3300 Corvette Model 1051 part number 22969090. You can buy it at any Chevy dealer or on eBay or others that sell it.

You can hook it up to the lighter socket or the battery OR there is a spot under the hood where you can connect it. It is really easy.

Jerry,

The part number I gave you is for the factory tender as if you bought it when you ordered your car. It is all ready to use and plug in.

I'm a cheap, but I can't believe these guys spending $65K on a car and then using some aftermarket tender to save $50 that needs rework, if you want to use the auxiliary power outlet to work. The factory tender is both a 3.3 amp charger and tender.

After market tenders where you hook up to the battery posts with the alligator clips is a pain if you have to do it often or with the plug-in some supply, you then have a plug in hanging out.

I have used this one for years and it keeps my Vette battery fully charged. My car sits from November 1 until mid April every year in 20 degree F temps. Works flawlessly and is $50.
