Default ticking noise from right rear on 79...

seems my 79 L82 has developed a ticking noise (best way to describe) form the right rear...seems to maybe be exhaust related......any thoughts on this.....?

Is it ticking only when the car is in motion? If so, the first thing I check is the half shaft universal joints. When the small roller bearings go they produce a clicking/snapping noise. Other than that, you might check underneath for anything loose or rubbing. Shake the exhaust pipes from the rear.

Could be a muffler when heating up and/or cooling down. Sheet metal inside.....it happens.

Loose baffle? Heat shield somewhere?

If the car isn't in motion, but IS running, and you still hear it, it could be a baffle if you think the noise is in the rear. Could also just be a hole rusted through a portion of the pipe, it happens

Played a joke on a guy once, put a few stones inside a dog-dish hubcap. Was about to pull his D/S and diff out before we stopped him. Mean, but funny.

When the car is cold open the hood and get somebody to plug the exhaust pipes, start it up, you'll hear a tic-tic-tic at the motor if an exhaust gasket is leaking
