Default Beware Grundy Insurance

I go to there website to get a quote and after answering many specific
Questions including checking the box for modified engine , I get a quote of $207.00 so I send them a check along with all required paper work -
A couple days go by and I get a email stating they want another payment
for $205.00 due to high performance! So a total of $412. 00 nearly double what they quoted - now I have to hope to get my $207.00 back ! What a scam and complete waste of time ! Should have just renewed with Haggerty at $ 288.00 - FYI -

I have Grundy......I am just NOW getting ready to install a 400 hp crate....I'm in no hurry to "tell" them about this venture!!

Actually, about 2 months ago, I called them & asked how much it would increase my premium by increasing the coverage from $16k to $23k.....after holding my breath.....the lady says "Well, due to Michigan encouraging people to drive higher priced vehicles, the premium will be REDUCED BY $70/year, and they'll be sending me a check for $40 toward the payment I've already made!! AMAZING...hearing something like that from a hot damn insurance company!!

Hi sw,
While I can certainly understand your ire I really can't imagine getting insurance for a special car like a Corvette without speaking to a live/real person and getting something in writing from them before sending off a check.
I know, I'm old and old fashioned too!
Regards,
Alan

I'm with you Alan. Seems like younger people just want to text & type not talk to a real person. Hard to get all the answers that way and there is a lot of misunderstanding.

And keeping pertinent data from your insurance company (like a significant horsepower increase) can open the door them them denying a claim.

Best to double check and be sure.

I had Hagerty for ten years, and they raised mine a lot so I went with hecock out of Florida and saved over two hundred dollars per year, I have a 84 and a 72, I pay $260 for both, and Hagerty wanted $477 , I said see ya!!!!

When I applied to Hagerty online, they asked the same million questions on their form. I waited for them to call me back to confirm the coverage/price. Very easy!

BTW, I even got them to add my wife's 96 Z28 as a collector car...its rarely driven, not a DD.

Same here. I was a Grundy customer up until 6 or 7 years ago but their customer service was sadly lacking. I switched to Hagarty and they have been a pleasure to deal with. I also had American Collectors at one time.

Nice to have a company which will insure newer and/or special interest cars without hassle.

I looked at switching this year Grundy scared me with all the rumors . Heacock had a super good price but the reviews scared me. So I stayed where I'm at with Hagerty. No problems just trying to cost cut. I guess I'm just scary

Seems unlikely that the premium would increase because they're just now regarding the car as a "high performance" vehicle. It's a sports car, not a commuter sedan. The premium may be higher because they believe your replacement value is higher with a 'modified' engine. Maybe the increase is in your liability coverage due to it being a 'modified' vehicle. How's your driving record?

Give us a call up, we are the National Corvette Museum Insurance Agency (NCM Insurance). We are owned/operated and located inside the Corvette Museum. Very similar coverage to the other guys, but you are working with Corvette people.
