Default Clear on interior dye

Has anyone came back a few days after spraying the dye and added a couple coats of clear?

I've dyed two interiors without any type of clear coat. I used SEM.

Hi c,
NOT being a smart-*** here….. what purpose would that serve?
Is there clear dye?
Are the dyed parts hard or soft? (Parking brake console or door panels?)
Regards,
Alan

The panels along the door edge and the seat backs just looking for a little extra protection. So far they look pretty good but a little extra protection from scratches

Hi c,
Protection is good.
Is there clear dye or would it be clear paint?
Regards,
Alan

The best product I've found for protecting the dye on hard parts is Krylon 1311 Matte Finish. It goes on and adheres well and cannot be seen when dry. It's worked well for me over Corvette America Corvette Tan dye (and also over the top of my dash which I've sprayed black to lessen reflection onto the windshield - it is very flat and has worked well in the Florida sun.)

Yes Alan I've seen it side by side in some catalogs with the dye. I was kinda wondering what the window for application is?

If the dye you used was good quality...NEVER!! Put a couple of coats of Nu-Vinyl or other polymer protectant on it. Never use Armor-All or any petroleum-based "protectant" .

If you are really into that "shiny" interior thing, you probably own stock in Armor-All or something with silicone in it. New C3 interiors were not "shiny".

The truth in the matter is I don't want it to get messed up as these are high wear areas. I was looking at a Matt finish. My window to spray I'm sure is closed to just spray the clear on. Thanks for the opinons

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but I use a clear over leather dyes, as the water based dyes wear easily. I'ts either a dull or semigloss finish and is a lacquer with a flex agent in it. It's designed to feel like leather. I have shot it over vinyl color in high wear areas just to give the job a bit more lifespan. As I'm usually doing this for work, I put the clear on almost straight away.
Cheers,
Grant
