You certainly won’t get many arguments here.

I’m sure that most Corvette fans would agree that the C3 is an American Icon, as explained in a recent report by The Globe and Mail. Even more interesting is how the writer, Peter Cheney, paints the picture of the period which helped shape the C3 into the icon that so many treasure today.

Take, for example, the opening paragraph, which sets the stage for his argument by listing a few other notable trends from the era, including shag carpets, mirrored ceiling tiles, polyester disco suits, and Farrah Fawcett wigs. And “the most telling cultural artifact of them all: a third-generation Chevrolet Corvette,” contends Cheney.

The piece goes on to identify a few notable celebrities during the period who drove Corvettes, like Sammy Davis Jr, David Partridge, and even author Joan Didion (pictured above).

You do, however, get the impression that Cheney is not a huge fan of the car, which probably won’t earn him a lot of friends here. But it’s still a great read.
