Hot C7 Variant Proves Porsche GT3 RS Isn’t Worth the Cash

Just when we thought we’d seen it all when it comes to how impressive the C7 Grand Sport is, we stumble on another bit of news that speaks to its amazing performance capabilities.

The latest comes in the video clip above, which proves the popular C7 Corvette variant is nearly as fast as a Porsche 911 GT3 RS. Well, that’s according to the highly-respected car testing team at the German magazine Sport Auto.

The Corvette Grand Sport clocked a lap around the German Formula One circuit at Hockenheim in 1:08.7 seconds. As Sport Auto puts it: “Fast so schnell wie ein GT3 RS!” English translation? “Almost as fast as a GT3 RS!”

To be exact, the 500-horsepower GT3 RS ran the track, known as Hockenheimring, in 1:08.5 seconds. For those having a hard time keeping up, that’s only a couple of fractions of a second quicker than the time laid down by the Grand Sport.

Even more impressive is the fact that with a price tag of $65,450, you could buy a new Grand Sport, a new Chevy Suburban to tow the car, an enclosed trailer to tow it in, and three days of performance driving at the Ron Fellows Performance Driving School. And it’d still come out a lot cheaper than buying the $175,600 Porsche GT3 RS.

Hard to bet against these kinds of numbers. Unless, of course, you’re someone who just likes throwing money away, which certainly is your prerogative.
