Corvette of the Week: It’s Never too Late to Try New Things

After owning 15 different BMWs in the past, Corvette Forum member googone20 decided it was time to step up to some real American muscle, so he bought this C5 Z06, aka the “Flying Banana.” And now he’s got himself a Corvette of the Week.

That’s not to say that googone20 doesn’t still have a thing for BMWs, as he hasn’t quite given up daily driving his 2014 328d Msport. But having sold his 2003 M3 a while back, he was in the market for a new toy. And after spending a lot of time helping his father-in-law look for a C5 Z06, googone20 decided he should probably look for one for himself as well.

And find one he did: a Millenium Yellow C5 Z06 with 50,000 original miles, and “over $20k in high-end upgrades,” according to googone20’s thread introducing the car.

Here’s what she’s packing:

Halltech Intake
AFR Heads with Upgraded Valves, Springs, Pushrods
Texas Speed Cam
Texas Speed Software
LG Long Tube Headers
LG G6 Coilovers
LG Brake Ducts
T1 Sway Bar Kit Front and Rear
PFADT Camber Kit
C6 Z06 Clutch Kit
C6 Z06 Shifter
Wilwood 6 Piston Calipers with 2 Piece Rotors
Stoptech Stainless Brake Lines
Upgraded Radiator
Upgraded Oil Cooler
Oil Catch Can
Rear Harness Bar Powercoated Wrinkle Black
Caravaggio Custom Seats with Z06 Embrodery in Headrests
Lloyd Mats (Yellow boarder with Z06 Embrodery)
Sparco Suede Racing Wheel
Nitto NT05 Tires

At this point, this baby’s already making 460whp and 420wtq. But while the Flying Banana is certainly a worthy recipient of our COTW, the car isn’t quite where googone20 wants it.

“My goal is to bring it to a whole new level. Lots of detailing, finishing touches, a little demodding, and a little more modding,” he says. So who knows, maybe this car’s got more Corvette of the Week awards to look forward to.
