C7 Corvette Z06 Takes on Porsche 918 at the Strip
Reaction time wins races. It’s an undeniable truth. At least that’s true with similar cars. In this race — held between two very different cars, a hybrid hypercar Porsche 918 and a Corvette Z06 — it may not have contributed too much to victory, but it’s still sad to see such a lousy start.
11.6 isn’t bad at all for a quarter-mile time. That’s the time set by the Corvette, but the Porsche had so much more pace, that even a perfect launch wouldn’t have mattered. The Corvette’s 121-mph trap speed holds nothing against the Porsche’s 143-mph speed. The Porsche’s 10.0 time also blows the Corvette out of the water.
This speed contest comes on the heels of Gspeed comparing their C7 Z06 with a McLaren P1 at Circuit of the Americas. In both cases, the European hypercars have the straight-line speed advantage. However, quarter-mile times in the 11-second range are pretty impressive for something that doesn’t cost the same as a small city. Does the 918’s $900,000+ price tag justify the extra second and a half?
