What’s the Difference Between Owning a C5 Corvette Z06 and an Early Viper?

c5 z06 vs viper gts

When it comes to bang-for-buck, the C5 Z06 pretty much has the game to itself. Not to rest on laurels though, Corvette Forum member SHARKBITEATTACK posted up a thread which brings up a good point: with prices falling for the first and second generation Vipers, those cars could be appealing alternatives to the C5 Z06. But by how much? Well, one thing the C5 (even at that time) had above the Viper, was build quality. That quality is felt in everything about the car, from ride comfort to how it drives on the highway.

But what about on-track manners? Let’s say you’re bad enough to tame both wild beasts and let traction control know who’s boss. Well, that’s where you’ll find the Viper to be a bit ungainly. It’s too big and too wide to be used on rapid directional changes. The C5 isn’t at the Corvette’s extremes, but it’s still usable right up to those limits.

So now that we have moved on a couple of generations, is there a modern successor to the old C5 Z06? We’ll have to let our own Corvette owners decide.
