Manual Transmission Gearing
The original question is here.
Nosferatu asked:
On the manual transmission Corvette (C6 & C7 included), what thought goes into how the specific gear ratios are spaced? Why are there so many overdrive gears? I understand using the top most gear in their respective generations as an overdrive gear for fuel economy but closer spacing to match the lower gears would have likely gained better acceleration in the 100-150 MPH range.

Pedestrian Safety Features
The original question is here.
MACE_Hardware asked:
I've seen several mentions in the periodicals about Pedestrian Safety regulations affecting vehicle design.
Please explain the regulations in general and how they affected Corvette C7 in particular.

Characteristics of Corvette's Brembo Calipers
The original question is here.
spearfish25 asked:
How do the Z06 Brembo brake calipers compare to Brembo's retail offerings? Are the calipers altered or engineered by GM in any way to tailor them specifically to the Z06? Are there any specific differences between the OEM supplied Brembos and the retail versions?

Tunnel-Mounted Shift Lever for Autos
Original question is here.
Wadoka asked:
With Chrysler's recent owner-operator issues (owners who can't tell if their car is in Drive or not, with resulting consequences)(and which still featured a lever) - would the GM design studio team think about considering, eliminating the central stalk, in favor of cleaner designs, for auto-equipped cars?

Hey if my manual gearing question wins (so far it's in the lead), I wanted to clarify with the Z51 packages specifically. You can add this to the question at the end...
"The 3-4 shift is ~100 MPH on the C6/C7 generations but then the 4-5 shift isn't until just under 150 MPH. There's plenty of gears to space those overdrives closer together so the engine doesn't drop under 5000 rpms at the 3-4 gear shift and bogs it's way to 150 MPH. Not my video but for a car with 7 speeds, the RPMs drop in 4th and even 5th gear where as the 1, 2, and 3 are spaced well. The car is basically a 4 speed car from 0 - 150."
