C8 Octane Requirement
Now that the C8 Owners Manual is out, I noticed it calls for a minimum of 93 octane gasoline. In California, as well as a number of other states, the maximum octane rating available at the pump is 91. The manual says you can use 91 octane but it will result in reduced performance. That brings to mind a couple of questions. First, will consistent use of 91 octane have the potential to cause any engine problems in the long term? Secondly, is it safe to use reputable octane boosters to increase the octane to the recommended rating? Finally, if octane boosters are appropriate, does Chevrolet recommend a particular octane booster for use with the LT2?
