For anyone that is looking to purchase a Pioneer AVIC N2. It is possible and easy at that to watch video while driving on the N2. Also to anyone that has a N1. You can send in your radio to Pioneer for a charge and have it upgraded to a N2. The only differance between the two is software. Also the XM traffic is only available in select areas. Miami is the only place in Florida to have it so far. That blows...guess I will not get a N2 for a while.
I am definately interested in upgrading to the N2. Where do I find more information of the N2? Will this software upgrade allow me to use the XM traffic? I'm wondering why they just don't send out a CD so that we can upgrade our systems ourselves.
thanks,
john
How is this possible, just wondering since I was told its not possible because the N2 is gyro driven. The guy I talked to owns his own shop, he hasnt quite figured out how to get around the problem of being able to watch DVDs and be moving at the same time.

I am not sure if the N1 or N2 are all that much different than any other in-dash screen but I know all of the ones I have had I just took the wire that is supposed to be connected to the emergency brake and grounded it to a constant ground? That worked on all of my other decks but I know the pioneer has all kinds of other goodies that monitor different aspects of the vehicles performance. So I might just be posting this to hear myself talk? lol.

Right but Pioneer got smarter in the N2 and used a gyro to know if the car moving or stopped instead of using a eBrake park wire.
The N2 and N1 are exactly the same piece except for the software. Yes the N2 uses multiple sources to "know" the car is in motion. Take the rear video output and plug it into the rear camera input. I believe the rear cam input can be turned on through the head unit or a switch can be added for the radio to "think" it is in reverse. While talking to Pioneer employee we pitched that idea to him and he said, after scratching his head a funny look on his face, that it would work. I have not tried it yet on a N2 myself but I can not see why it will not work.

I got the DVD to work by routing the video output to the rear camera plug and adding a switch to the backup wire.
1.) Connect the Parking Brake lead from the hide-away unit directly to ground.
2.) Connect the Reverse-Signal lead from the hide-away unit to a switch near your seat that your can activate while driving. Connect the other side of the switch to 12V power.
3.) Loop the video output from the top of the hide-away unit into the rear-view camera input on the bottom of the hide-away unit.
4.) In the AVIC-N2 initial setup screen, turn on the rear-view camera feature.
there will be a text message at the bottom of the screen that's meant for actual rear-view cam use, something to the effect of "CAUTION: IMAGE MAY APPEAR REVERSED
