Default Low Cost Monitors

Can anyone comment on the low cost monitors out there, ie...Lilliput,Avator, LM etc? Also is there an RGB/VGA adapter or do the monitors have to have an RGB connection for navigation?

haven't heard about avator or lm but the lilliput i've seen in person and it is a decent monitor and it's even a little brighter then my xenarc. The lilliput is available with vga and rca inputs. you can get a vga->rca converter but you'll be wasting your money. you'll need vga res. for smaller text. The reason why i purchased my xenarc over a lilliput (even though a brighter screen would have been better in a vert) was the build quality of the lilliput isn't as refined as the xenarc. Though, dont let that steer you away. A lot of people love the lilliput and have had little to no problems with it

for more input on monitors check out www.mp3car.com they have a forum dedicated to lcd displays..do a search there and you may find out more about the other monitors.

I guess I'm a little confused. What exactly is the difference between RGB and VGA? Can you use a VGA monitor with a navigation system. Once again, thanks for your information.

i missread your post, i thought you said rca not rgb.
vga is a higher resolution digital standard used in computer monitors, while rgb is a high resolutoin analog video standard
it goes:
coax--worst, carries audio and video on while wire
composite--carries all video info on one wire (aka rca)
s-video-- has two primary wires, luminance and chromanance
component--splits the video signal into 3 wires, red, green (usually carries sync), blue (This standard is also known as aka rgb)
Rgb is the best of these but it still lacks the ability to display the finer detail that vga signal carries.

to answer your question i guess i have to konw what kind of nav system you are talkin about. is it an aftermarket system, a computer system, or a stock c6 system.

Man you are great! I'm looking at an aftermarket Kenwood or Pioneer. I just want to make sure I get the right monitor.

if you are going with one of those systems you cant use a different monitor. i believe the pioneer's only nav systems are the avicn1/2 which the monitors are built in with the nav system. i'm not sure about kenwood but if it is a touchscreen nav unit you are most definately stuck with buying from the same manufacturer.

The monitors you have mentioned would be only good for aux monitors to display movies with. in that case you would have to check specifics on the h/u model but it should be just a composite out (rca jack)

Actually both companies have stand alone nav units without monitors. I guess I just need to see what type of connection I need to make it work. I appreciate you helping me out.

there is no manual for that on that site but it looks like if you want to use the touchscreen feature you are stuck with getting a kenwood monitor. but if you dont want that feature then you can use any monitor with an rca vid. input

Itnate...if you decide to use the Pioneer I would recommend the Pioneer monitor. If you use the Pionneer monitor you will have all the touch screen controls of the nav unit. I do not think that works on any other monitor. I have a AVIC 80 in my truck and love it.

for just playing dvd's most of the monitors will be fine. xenarc's have a little better detail in the blacks while the lilliput is brighter.

I'm not sure about the other screens since i've never seen them in person.

Most of the guys on the 350z forum are using the Farenheit 7" monitors. I know nothing about it other than its inexpensive. I'm running a Sony HD65 and I've run an Alpine TME-M760. The Alpine had better resolution, but the Sony is 1/2 the price and still very nice. I like the alpine better because you can change sources w/out the remote control, so switching to the back up cam or nav is easier. I'd take Randys suggestion, buy the same brand monitor as your HU. If I went with the Alpine touchscreen in my 350z, I'd be able to control the Alpine DVD player and nav, and switch sources like I just described.

Hey Eatrice I've been waiting for you to chime in. Will the Pioneer fit without much mod? Don't know if you guys know but VrumVrum just sent me pictures of a HU/monitor kit which he makes. It makes intalling a monitor very very simple. I'll send pics to anyone who wants to see it.

You all suck. Now you got me looking at monitors / video head units.

Does anyone have pics of a monitor install in a early C4 ?

Farenheit sucks i have tried a few of them everytime a new model came out and the display is not bright and you can not view it at all from angles

and does vrumvrum make a mount for the c4 or c5s,i would like to see some for the c4's,i was thinking of moving my rearview mirror to a glass mount and mount a monitor where the mirror is now
